Turbo intake piping looks a bit small. 2.5"?
Intakes are straight off Matt's 8 second setup.
Exhaust primaries, if to mean the headers, they are the ones that come with the DR12/13/1400 kits.
André
even a 2.5" pipe should flow around 913 cfm till it hits 0.40 mach (the point at which airflow meets increased resistance (drag) and flow losses are experienced)
(1826cfm combined)
~1005 awhp requires a total Air-Flow of about 1826cfm at compressor inlet conditions, ...
was the tune aggressive?
Not at all, 2.2 bar and +8 degrees over base tune.
André
i can guess those mufflers don't flow so well. you should do a single shot 4" catback. also make the ic piping bigger. do 2.5" from turbos to IC and 3.5" /4" after ic to tb. the intake pipes should be 3" for those turbos. make the car as efficient as possible. don't fallow Matt's setup. try to make your car more efficient than his. and where are the videos? i want to hear that dogbox. now it's video time pictures were only good enough when you were building the car. :D
I hear what you are saying about making it as efficient as possible but if I can't get it running right with the same stuff he had, then any 'upgrades' I make are just sticking plasters until the problem is identified.
As for the dog box, it is back at Elite to find out why it stopped selecting reverse (the only stock gear left in it). I will probably swap the Kormex box out after the next JDS round time permitting as a box swap takes about 10 hours of labour on this now.
I don't think anyone took a video as the shutter was down unfortunately.
We're doing a shake down run this weekend, weather permitting, I'll try to get some footage then.
André
start with your exhaust. straight 4" or bigger then with a muffler with 4" inlet to help keep it quiet. Matt's car was open 4" down pipe FYI. you can just remove the catback and run on the dyno with open downpipe. i bet it'll make big difference.
Cat? What cat?:lol7:
I'm not going to hunt too hard until we have eliminated the most likely candidates like cams and cam timing for example.
As for the exhaust, it has been assembled in 3 sections, so I can remove just the back section with mufflers to leave the 4" through pipe. Then I can remove the through pipe leaving just the downpipes. As for the collector Ray gave me an excellent tip on how to check if it's a restriction or not.
I'm not ruling out the exhaust system, but I have a hunch that the bulk of the problem lies elsewhere.
Andre
just put a boost guage on your down pipes :p
Actually, Rays idea was to measure differential pressure
André
if you have a 4" before the mufflers then you can just test it by removing those. those mufflers are not made to flow too well. they actually do make pressure gauge to measure back pressure on the exhaust, but that's made for finding out of the cat is burnt and restricted. you may be able to use that to find out if you have too much back pressure.
That is the plan, to remove the back section, but not until we have investigated the cams. Those mufflers have 3" running through each of them in a straight line. Cross sectional diameter of 4" is 12.56 square inches, cross-sectional diameter of 2 x 3 inch pipes is 14.13 in.˛. Not my prime suspect

Such an awesome build! I hope mine turns out to be as successful as yours, great work!
He grenaded the TC gears on the 3rd launch of the cars life :(
Getting rebuilt of course, tranny unharmed
that t case wasnt billet?
No, the mk2 6 speed is iron. I had a billet end housing on the gearbox as well as a 300m output shaft and a bell housing brace.
André
the GEARS are the weak point on a 6 speed transfer case. i preach this all the time, but people like to argue it.
there are no upgrades for the gears as of yet.
Andre, we knew that was coming
^this.
now the real trick is to find a solution for it :hum:
Ray
It has another tc on it and we are back to the track for round 2 of the JDS tomorrow and Sunday. The plan is to set boost to waste gate (21 psi) for first gear where torque x gear ratio peaks at 1910, whereas 2nd peaks at around 1110, so we'll run 32 psi from 2nd up. I'll also be doing my damnedest to slip that clutch as much as possible.
I have a Tilton clutch flow control valve but it has -3AN fittings and my clutch line is metric! Ran out of time again......
André
Does anyone happen to know whether all the tc's that have grenaded, have they been rebuilt, serviced or re-shimmed prior to breakage?
The reason I ask is because my 1st one let go 2 weeks after a rebuild whilst normal driving and this one was brand new but didnt look all shiny like you would expect.
André
I went back and read more.
That sucks man. Sorry to hear the TC gears gave out.
it's not the engine...it's the clutch and the grip he has :p aka tyres
6 speed tc breaks even when brand new. put some redline shock proof in it and see if it helps keeping it in one piece. the best thing to do is to make a better gears. also do you have brake line lock on your car? you can use that to lock your wheels. that way you can load the drivetrain and reduce shock when launching. evos use that all the time.
I vote getting a different set of 17" wheels and getting a REAL drag racing tire. Those hard sidewalled R888's are for road racing and shouldnt be "launched" with with our fragile 6 speed TC's.
These tires would take a lot of the violent power on the launch and save drivetrain parts for the first 60'
Buschur Racing comes through with the help of M&H Racemaster! - evolutionm.net
If you got a custom set of wheels with some negative offset you may even be able to fill the wide body, even.
I suggest these wheels :)

Line lock is on the list to do.
I do have spare Volks CE28N 17x9 with Mickey Thompson ET Streets in a 26x11.5x17s
Btw ra n 10.35 @ 143 on a baby launch today with NO breakages!
André
damn must have video. :D
there is video. search for 3000gt and look at the newest vids. i saw it earlier today
It is great to see you in the 1/4 finals André, & with what is looking like a free run into the semi's with the oposition breaking.
It's a shame that Santa Pod is an uphill drag strip other wise the times would be better still.
Who would make an uphill drag strip LOL
Jeff
great run buddy! and yes those cases break even if no one has messed with them. its a material issue.. the teeth bust off.
Well, I just got back and I got through to the semi finals and came 3rd in the class. I didnt manage to improve on my time due to gear selection issues but the dog box goes in this week anyway.
Had the same crappy second hand tc in all weekend. Ran it on the R888s at 29 psi and 25 psi as well as the Mickey Thompson ET Streets (26/11.5/17) run at 17 psi and 15 psi.
Even launched on the MTs cutting a 1.5 60' despite missing 2nd! Not a hint of breaking, whining, nothing! Used parts ftw!
Btw, I gave up limiting the boost after the 1st run and just ran the full amount for the next 9 passes.
André
nice runs! what are your goals for this thing andre? just a 9 sec daily driver o what?
Ultimately a 9 second dd that can run 8s when competing (but there's a long road ahead for that one)
André
sounds good. of course the setup is good for 8s, and it looks like 9s and just right around the block for you.
When I ran the10.35 it was with a 1.8 60', the 1.5' 60' without missing gears would without doubt have gone 9s.
Also the MTs actually felt kinder to the transmission than the R888s
André
and these runs where at the 832 awhp?
Yes
