Your's makes sense as only the bottom of the piston was damaged. How was Alan's hit on both the top and bottom multiple times? I can understand one side or the other but both sides look beat all to hell.

Eric - Daaaamn! You were not kidding that you have seen the same carnage lol! TBH, I have not found the missing wrist pin either =X I am removing the other cylinders' pistons+rods as we speak.
Jeff - Great question! I have been pondering the same thing. The only explanation that I can come up with is the fact that I was going full tilt in fourth at 140+ while pulling lengths on that IS-F. It literally went "BANG" followed by vibrations and smoke as I broke the 5k threshold while still holding idle speed as I pulled over to a stop. It may not be clear, but the piston literally smashed into the cylinder head and completely pushed+closed the gap on the spark plug; there is an imprint right in the center of the piston surface. I can only imagine that it was getting slapped freely up and down the cylinder, but that is just my guess at this point.
Does it appear to you like the top was hit multiple times or just once really hard?
Which valves are bent?
Alan, you and familyman both deserve a lot of credit for sticking with it after a MAJOR catastrophie. I about lost it when I simply bent a rod. <$400 and I was back driving again. You both lost a complete powertrain.

Agreed!

I managed to blow the front of the crankcase/ engine block out when mine let go on nitrous, very weird as the engine sounded perfectly fine up until the "bang" and then bits were bouncing between the floorpan and the road..
We should start an engine carnage thread ;).
Final update: I had immediate offers from some amazing 3/S owners/friends down here. I believe that one will be bringing me an original 2-bolt main tomorrow to play with hehe. It appears to be straight with potential, so I will just need to eventually decide on my approach. Ultimately, I want the experience to still remain interesting and fun with a unique, representative result.
Jeff - Thanks! That means a lot. Most of us already [or should] know that you have to "pay to play" aha. Given that I intentionally and repeatedly pushed her daily, I was expecting something(s) to eventually say uncle, so you can say that I was somewhat mentally prepared for recent events - monetarily is another story lmao! I was not, however, expecting the trans AND TC to be damaged additionally though!
I wish I could correctly explain the piston's f*cktastic outcome, but I can only guess and consider your guys' valued input and opinions. At a top glance, the valves still appeared to be straight. I would venture to say that it smacked the head once ridiculously hard and "settled" near the bottom of the cylinder. It does seem to fit the concave section of the head too.
Eric - TBH, I have been leaning more and more toward how your car currently performs powerband-wise. My HL turbines and cams did well, but I feel that TD05 or single with AEM-tweaked ignition timing maps will be more satisfactory. Coupled with VD, I can ensure reasonable torque output and still rev her out with power. The limited options and price for stepping outside of TD04 will make this my last decision after I address the power/drivetrain. If not, I will probably pursue it much later.
Chris [Forest] - I saw your post about ProEFI on the other forum. L-O-L MAN! That was priceless.
Keith - I know right?! It sounded like I was running over a rocky road at first.
My 14bs would be similar to your 19ts. If going td05, I would go 16g which will be next for me. Quite a few 16g wheels out there to try since you like to experiment. Justin on tuners and I have been thinking about the evoX comp wheel for me. Small inducer, big exducer and cheap to try.
Nice thing about td05 is cost of replacement or upgrade if something goes wrong is so cheap compared to billet td04. Td05 headers are for sale cheap. 14bs are $50-100 each. I bought mine from justin for more but they were rebuilt, cleaned, and came with 7cm housings instead of crack prone 6. He even surprised me and welded the wastegate shut since I'm external.
I like AEM. Does what I want it to and is fairly easy to understand. Sometimes titles of chart options aren't very descriptive but google searching fixes that. Can't wait to try series2. Have heard only good things. Series2 has good descriptions built into the software now. Plus many cool features that I have discussed in other threads.
That is simply the mod for ease of checking your current oil level.
Yep, its there, lol.
Jeff
wow..lots of carnage pictures in this thread.
