1994 has a stronger engine.
The 1992 has 2 bolt main caps. The 1994 has 4 bolt main caps. This of course applies if both cars have their orignal factory motors. That is why the 4 bolt motor is considered stronger.
You can do a search to see what upgrades are needed for your horsepower goal. The more horsepower you want, the more money you have to spend to fuel the motor and hopefully keep it together. Many options exist when you say "beef it up". Good luck!
You may want to check with Ninja (Chris Hill) . He will have great ideas and prices on anything you get from him. You will need to know how healthy your motor is before you ask more out of it. You need to find someone close to you that knows the VR-4 cars to assist you if this is new to you.

As well as the transaxle and x-fer case differences. The 92 is going to have the 5 speed which is pretty well bullet proof. Depending on the build date, it may be a 25 spline vs. the 18 spline of the early models. The transfer case is weak, though. The 6 speed in the 94 is the opposite. The bell-housing needs reinforced(dependent on what you intend to do with the car), but the transfer case is stout. In any event, we would need a lot more info about what kind of goals you have in mind.

Im in southern NH, looking to make my 3000GT VR4 purchase this spring. Looking to learn a little more about the car before I start shopping. I need to understand and learn more about the intricate systems this car has. I have built a 1st Gen Eclipse, Several custom jeeps and currently restoring a 58' Ford. Im no stranger to working on cars. I swear i was born with a wrench in my hand as my father was a master mechanic back in the day. Im Looking forward to being part of the forum!

Hey guys, I'm new to this Forum and found it after checking out 3SI. I have a 93 VR4 and bought it from the original owner. He maintained it fairly well and kept it stock and now I'm going to be the dumb young one that modifies it. But, I'm not going to be cheap and cut corners, its not my style. :) Currently I am having an interesting problem with it being temper-mental and wanting to shut off while driving, and a few seconds later be perfectly fine with starting and driving another 10-30 seconds before repeating. over. and over. and over again. Annoying? yes. Do I know whats going on? HA! No -_- I wish I did. I'm gonna be tearing into it today and tomorrow so if anyone has any advice feel free to let me know! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Welcome, new guys!
Sup, just looking around for some info.
Just picked up a 94 stealth rt tt. Looking for upgrade advice
THe first thing you need to do is verfy the health of yout RT TT. Was the 60K, 120K, etc. maintenance requirements completed? How well has this vehicle been maintained? What are the compression numbers?
You really need to know the health of what you have before you ask it to do more with upgrades.
Good luck and Welcome to the 3/S/GTO scene.

just done with the old forum.... and looking for information on attempting a 6G75 swap.
Best of luck with it. Generally people do the 6g74 with custom pistons and the 6g75 crank to get a 3.7L out of it.
I'm new here. Thanks for the forum tips.
Have been on the "other" forum for a bit. Joined up because this one seems to get more info on development of things like the lcdbc. Thanks in advance for all the help! :-)
Just discovered this site, seems to be loads of useful info posts here.
Cheers.
