Just when I thought life couldn't bitch slap me any harder, I get nailed. I went to hang up a come-a-long at work back in the first week of June and I felt an ice pick like stabbing pain in my left shoulder & I dropped the come-a-long. Long story short, I went to plant medical and they treated it like a strain/sprain with ice downs and ibuprofen. It seemed like it was getting better until I exacerbated the injury on July 2nd while doing maintenance on a press at work. I started a WC case and they sent me out for an MRI. I have 7 tears in the shoulder region. 3 of 4 rotator cuff muscles have tears, a linear tear in the bicep tendon and I have torn the labrum 4 ways, yeah.:( I am now in the waiting process for workman's comp to see an ortho specialist for a consult and then get it fixed. Meanwhile, this is causing the left shoulder to have some muscle atrophy, but not as bad as the right arm. My arms always measured 16.5 to 17.5 at the bicep/tricep and the right arm is now down to somewhere around 14" (my forearms are 14") and the loss of what I have always had all my life for arm size is depressing. The only thing that keeps me from obsessing about it is the same thing happened to my right leg back several years ago and it lost 1/3 of it's size due to a pinched nerve and after the problem was fixed, the leg came back to size in about 9 months.
The good news is I am holding at around 205 - 207 and my latest results from the fasting blood test are the best I have had ever. I have gone from being in danger of getting into pre-diabetes to being solidly in the normal range for blood sugar. My blood pressure is also the lowest It has been in my adult life, 108/72 +-. The loss of 45 pounds is definitely the main reason for this along with getting no less than 6 to 6.5 hours of sleep at night and 7+ on the weekends. My PCP has told me for years that sleep deprivation will prevent weight loss, raise blood pressure and blood sugar levels, but I didn't put much stock into it. I am now a believer in proper sleep habits helping in the quest for weight loss.
If you want amazing results and reduce stress on your lower back, do crunches on one of those big rubber exercise balls. I guarantee if you can do 50 crunches on the floor, you will get no where close to that doing them sitting on one of those balls. Doing crunches on the big ball will define the six pack many times faster than floor crunches. A lot more muscles get worked out because you have to balance yourself while doing the crunch, on the floor you don't
Friday I was still #1 in my departments competition we are having.
I really need to start getting at it more so I can make a big improvement for next week since I will be on vacation this Friday's weigh in.
Thanks Johnny ought to try that on my balls
