The owner of project "Dirty Sohc" came over last night to de-rodent the engine bay. Looked like they had chewed the insulation off of one of the fuel injector wires. Decided to throw a battery in it and start it up anyway. Unbelievably, it fired right up. I checked the injector with the suspect wiring and it was clicking away. Wasn't too long before white, coolant scented smoke started coming out of the tail pipe. We were told the head gasket was likely shot, good to confirm it anyway. Decided to take it for a quick spin up the road to make sure the trans shifted. All was good!
I can't believe how cheap parts are for that engine. Fel-Pro head gaskets are 7 bucks each. The HGs, ignition tune up kit, and timing belt/WP kit is all under 200 bucks!
Almost done collecting parts to do my high HP build
Well, I would. But I'm working on this for a friend/customer so I want it done right so he doesn't have any surprises. I don't know when it was done the last time and the car has almost 170k.
What did the previous owner change in the car that he had to bungee cord that radiator hose away from the shifting linkage? I just noticed it and I also noticed when I change gears it is getting in the way of shifting. Maybe this is why my second grinds? I don't know. Thoughts? It couldn't be that way from the factory right? Haha

May not have changed anything. I once cured someones blockout by moving the rad hose out of the way. Maybe they bungeed it to stop it from happening again.
Did they install the hose upside down?
