I know they shouldn't be run this way, but I've ran them with a 3 to 2 prong adapter and then a light socket adapter. The bulbs fire off a little slower than normal, but work OK.Quote:

I have the fixtures hanging from the garage door tracks ATM.
FWIW, I have had a few 3 prong plugs where I literally snapped the 3rd prong off, both on purpose, and on accident and still used it with no issue.
I have had 4 fluorescent lights connected in the garage using a light socket adapter with a 3>2 prong adapter for the last 6 years or so. Always planned on wiring them in correctly but it worked without issue.
