Remember, there's a difference between "overweight" and "unhealthy", even if it's rarely mentioned on TV commercials. Muscle weighs more than fat. It's not about a magic weight number, it's about overall health.
Some people are 20, 30, 40 pounds over what their weight should be - but they can pull a car uphill on ice.

Completely different circumstances. But you already said you are unhappy - so work towards getting to a point where you are happy. :)
Granny diets never work because it is not a lifestyle change. Good luck with it. I would look at what you are eating now. The biggest bang for the buck in weight loss lifestyle change is to cut out snacks after dinner. No eating til morning. Drink more water. Just do that for a while see if it doesn't net you 10-20 lbs.
