Measure from the red wire (with the meter (+) to the ground (with the meter (-).
Make sure the meter is set to DC Volts.
Do you have the sensors plugged in when you test or are you checking them open?

You could try licking the wires to check for signals but most of us just hang in there with the meter.
Patience, you'll get it.

There are three spots on here that say DC! I turn it to the one on the right and wit the leads touching nothing it just cycles through numbers.
You said to test for voltage with the connectors not open. So I put the + lead on the red wire as close to the connextor as possible. and did the same with the - on the black wire. 11.86.
