Picked this up on sunday, was looking to get a starter 1911 and this one fit the bill. After shooting it a bit yesterday I love it.

I have an AK-47, Rock island 1911, and a very old .22 that has been in the family for over 50 years. I will put pics up when I get home later this week.
did you mean to say cheapER ammo? Current AK ammo pricing is anything but cheap, but it is less expensive than .223 or .308. I went to a gunshow (shudder) last Saturday looking for AR uppers and saw 7.62x39 priced at $350/500 ($700/case) and I saw .308 priced out at $800/1000. I refused to look at 9mm and .223 prices, but was told that the .223 was going for $700 for cheap ass Wolf and was upwards of $800/case for good ammo. I was seeing .45ACP going for $38 to $50 for $18 boxes and the coup de gras was 500 round bricks of 22LR going for $85! I will not buy ammo at these prices.
I was amazed that I could not find a dealer selling barreled uppers. Our shows usually had a half dozen guys selling them. On my last go-a-round, I found one guy tucked in a corner that had around a dozen and a half uppers. The best part was he told me the guy next to him had a dedicated 22LR upper for sale and it would be a better deal than anything he had. It was and I got it for $400 OTD.
It's a Viper conversion and came with 2 10 rd magazines. I have a couple of Blackdog AR/22LR mags that should work with it. Now I have a CMMG 22LR conversion w/1 mag that I don't really need. Shit, I paid $225 just for the CMMG bolt & mag, so getting a 16" barreled upper receiver and a 22LR bolt and 2 mags was a sweet deal for $400. The cheapest barreled upper that the other guy had started at $350, so I would have had close to $600 instead of $400.
Holsters, accessories, scopes & optics were still fairly priced as far as I could see. It was just ammo and assault weapons that were nuts. One guy had a UTAS shotgun there for $2000 & another dealer had the new Kel-Tec twin tube shotgun priced out at $1995. There is a definite premimum put on long guns that look bad ass and strike fear into liberal jackasses. :(
Shows, in todays arena, are for opportunists looking to fleece the public. Find a good, local, dealer. They're still out there. My guy isn't marking up anything; he's spending his time just trying to get guns on the shelf, and selling them at normal prices. In fact, I've never paid retail with him. He always gives me about 11% off. There's at least 2 other dealers within 5 miles of my house that are operating under the same business model.
I applaud you for not paying the absurd prices. If more folks would take that stand, the broader market will revert to normal. It's starting to happen.
In other news WV Congress has totally scrapped their recently introduced gun control legislation. Nice to have officials that actually listen to their constituents. Now, if only we could get DC of the same mindset...
Jeremy
state legislators still have regular jobs, because their pay as legislators is relatively trivial. federal legislators are a different story. so it's much easier to sway local/state politicians, because you don't have to wave a truckload of money on their faces to get something done.
I know. Wish it wasn't so...

My best recommendation for you is to realize every election this is going to happen. While I was still in Taiwan, I ordered all my parts to finish my AR, plus spares, bought my SIG556 and 2,000 rounds of 5.56 at $0.32 a round. I had to go through 2008 searching Walmart daily for ammo so stocked up this time around. Semper Paratus.
Haha, Im not military but enjoy Latin.
