what exactly is the theory behind polishing a crank?
(p.s. don't wait too long. i plan to have this work done as soon as i can get enough cranks thrown together to meet the minimums).

Polishing a crank removes any slight imperfections on the surface. Imperfections that are small enough to be removed without grinding the journal to a new size. Basically any groove or gouge that you can feel with your finger tip is too much. At least this is how I perceive it. I'm no expert, but I'm always trying to learn.
Mine is getting substantially longer, day by day.

Since the car is finally drivable I've started making my list:
This spring/summer/fall:
- Install battery strap (didn't come with one but I have one on order).
- Install low beam HID kit (ordered)
- Swap out standard intercooler piping hose clamps with stainless steel t-bolt hose clamps
- Redo subwoofer (currently an Infinity Basslink that doesn't allow the glass roof to stow and has a cut up floor)
- Clean up engine bay
- Replace various exterior trim pieces that have rubber rot.
- Swap existing Alpine head unit for something with more bells and whistles and more sound quality
Further down the road (maybe later this year or beginning of next year if things go right):
- 99 front bumper, bumper inserts, corner lights
- Repaint car
