I ordered a flex section for my crossover pipe.
it did not crack... Me rushing one night and it being late made me bolt the manifold with like 4 bolts to hold it on...then i forgot about it when i came to finish.. so thats taken care of now lol
My single turbo manifold hasn't cracked, and it's only mild steel BUT it does have a turbo stand with 2 support columns coming off the transmission
Uhh, the knock sensor is out of frame of the pic I quoted.
Hopefully everything will be right soon but if I'm not done by mid next week I will post the kit for sale. I don't want to give up but I haven't driven my car in 4-5 months
All single turbo setup on a v-engine need a flex section in the secondary unless they use single/double slip merge collectors (and even then a flex section is desirable). This is header 101 stuff and has little to do with the mass of turbo. We aren't talking about yielding the welds we are talking thermal fatigue. As mentioned, its CTE (basic material properties) and the longer the headers the worse it is (especially when constrained between the two heads like a single setup). A completely solid setup won't crack immediately... thats the definition of fatigue. Ray doesn't need a flex section because he's running twins and he does have slip merge collectors which minimize the need (allow for relative movement due to CTE).
Ah you poor guy. These tears are for you QQ T_T
I havent driven my car in 4 years...
Drove my car for the first time in months! ... Blew the ic pipe off on the first pull lol.. now i have to switch to a N/A water housing to stop a sllooooowwwww water leak and tune the car
How does it feel? I bet it felt good finally getting it up and running, huh?
Yea... did a few pulls last night.. when i got back i popped the hood and their was oil all over the engine bay and the dipstick was pushed halfway out :(
The motor has less than 2000 miles on the rebuild so im pretty sure its nothing internal. It has a fairly new oem pcv valve. Someone told me to get a catch can and some krank vents?
