Drove it to work today. One of these days ill figure out why my DS likes to make noise from 30 to 55 =/. Installing poly rear diff mounts to the Y plate on the rear diff today when I get off hopefully.
yes, its a 3m di-noc
Opened the '91 TT up to install '99 lifters, plugs and wires, and to clean things up a little.
Sent from my Nexus S
Yes, just used aluminum piping off eBay. Vibrant is the only one I know of that does aluminum mufflers. $150 if I recall for a 4". You could vband a stainless on but the vibrant alum only weighs around 2.5-3lbs:).
I have the exhaust complete and it's better but a hair too loud. One muffler/resonator should do it. When I get around to it.
Installed intermediate shaft for auto. Wired shiftbox. Wired lock-up converter switch. New tires for rear. And got it off jackstands!
Oh and I drove it around the block:D Fueling tune needs a lot of work but it's going to move pretty good once sorted. VERY happy that the Auto doesn't kill the fun at all so far (I had my concerns). I'll have more to report on auto vs 5sp later but for now, it's badass. 1st to 2nd shift with the shift kit and shiftbox is retarded fast and fun. Surprisingly responsive with 280's and a stock converter on this quick trip.
Nomie, I know you are watching....you are toast buddy;)
Awesome, I love the feedback on the auto. I need to find a shell with no trans and no engine. I can throw an auto in it and my old engine, lol.
Bolted down seat, drove it, washed it, pulled fuel pump to realign float, started it, reassembled trunk.
For those that say the Walbro's are loud.. I do not understand. I could hear it at idle with my trunk stripped, but once everything was back in... the only way I can hear it is with the radio off, at idle, purposely listening for it (stock exhaust on that car too.) My pump came with an insulating sleeve -> unsure if they always do?
Awesome to hear you got it running on its own 4 feet...:D I'm psyched...I only got to look at my car this weekend...no time to drive it..:(
Its always one or the other....time or money...you get one but then you loose the other...
I'm making good gains at the gym though...picked up almost 4lbs in 3 weeks! :D
Gave it a good break in....18lbs of boost, multiple 1st and 2nd pulls to 7xxx rpm. One 3rd gear pull to 7500, 122mph. Did I tell you the auto is awesome yet? :D ZERO boost drop between gears. Insanely fast shifts with the shift kit. Grin ear to ear on every 1 to 2 shift:glee2:
It will keep pulling past 7500. Boost drops off a little up top (WG spring only so far) and I ran out of room. Need to install the upgraded brake pads:mask: Feels pretty fast so far at 17lbs (have about 7-8 to go before 14bs run out of steam.) I'm running a hair more timing than before and TT heads/280 cams vs NA heads/cams plus better exhaust, WG setup. Unfortunately, Virtual Dyno will not work to compare to my previous setup or anyone's manual graphs. VD uses rpm, not vehicle speed and since the converter is constantly slipping a little, rpm based isn't 100%. The 700awtq spike is after I punch it and rpms rise faster than vehicle speed as converter settles in. Then it settles but still a constant slight slip since I didn't lock it in (may or may not hold power so not risking it the 2nd day out). At this time, no way of knowing what the numbers really are.

Some of it is useful though. The curve from 5k on is exactly how it felt in the car....it kept making more hp/pulling harder until 6.5-7ish when it starts to slack a little. If/when I add a little boost duty cycle up top to keep the boost flat hp would've flattened or maybe kept rising. VD should be useful to compare my own car's changes. If I had to guess, I would say 475-500awhp, not 600.
Added fuel up top after reviewing the logs. Underestimated how much more fuel the TT heads and 280 cams would need. Should be good now. I have AEM engine safety setup to cut ignition if I go leaner than 13.4:1 above 15psi. Maybe I'll lower it just to be a little safer.
Bad news, broke my shift box. It won't upshift, but still downshifts. Emailed the maker 30mins ago and he already replied with a troubleshooting tip. Will check it out in a bit.
