Damn ESPN, I still can't believe they showed that. LOL. At least it was a young black dude, and not some stereotypical mouth breathing hilljack. :D

That's crazy considering Auburn is well below the scholarship limit this year (we had 72 on scholly before we ended up giving a lot of walk-ons scholarships to compensate). All of the kids we signed last year were eligible too, so we lost 0 to attrition.
Link to confirm my first sentence:
Auburn awards eight walk-on football players scholarships for the 2011 season | al.com
Link explaining losses from 2006-2009, written in 2009.
Auburn will kick off football season with approximately 75 players on scholarship | al.com
Note that we still have Shon Coleman on scholarship (the kid that was diagnosed with cancer a month after signing day). We lost 4 players that decided to forgo their senior year last year as well. So far, our last two recruiting classes are looking pretty solid in terms of attrition.Quote:
•2009 signing class: Auburn received good news from the NCAA Clearinghouse this week when two signees were approved, but the Tigers lost five players to junior colleges when they didn't qualify and another player to professional baseball. There is still a signee waiting to learn his fate.
Auburn has 21 of its 28 signees in school. Florida State transfer Aubrey Phillips makes it 22 newcomers. The maximum allowed by the NCAA is 25.
The biggest names in the signing class made it in quarterback Tyrik Rollison, wide receivers DeAngelo Benton, Emory Blake and Travante Stallworth; tight end Phillip Lutzenkirchen; defensive linemen Nick Fairley and Nosa Eguae; and linebacker Eltoro Freeman and running back Onterio McCalebb.
•2008 signing class: Only 17 of the 29 players that were signed are on the roster. Some were quickly dispatched to junior colleges. Some transferred or left.
•2007 signing class: Fourteen of the 30 signing-day players are still on board. There are some notable names still on the team, like Kodi Burns, Josh Bynes, Ryan Pugh and Wes Byrum, but notable signee Enrique Davis is at Ole Miss, and there's a list of players that have faded from memory.
•2006 signing class: Sixteen of the 25 signed are still on the roster, including some of the highest-profile players: Neil Caudle, Mario Fannin, Tim Hawthorne and Ben Tate.
I'm surprised to see South Carolina that high.
So off-the-charts attrition in 2007 and 2008 at Auburn -- 143-28=115. Ah, much more reasonable.
You guys have been down on players for a while now, right? So you're not exactly taking advantage of over signing like Saban... heh
We've been under the scholarship limit for the past three years going into summer workouts even with the past two recruiting classes doing so well. So I'd say your statement of us not taking blatant advantage of oversigning is accurate.
Tuberville was notorious for signing players and sending them off to JUCO if they didn't make the grades.
So, Mitch McConnell is apparently responsible for this whole Louisville push. Fuckin Kentucky...
W.Va. delegation weighs in on WVU/Big 12 situation* - WVU Sports - Charleston Daily Mail - West Virginia News and Sports -
Quote:
U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) is having a press conference at 6 p.m. today in his Charleston office to discuss the future of WVU and the Big 12 conference. Senator Manchin also issued the following statement:
"If these outrageous reports have any merit -- and especially if a United States Senator has done anything inappropriate or unethical to interfere with a decision that the Big 12 had already made -- then I believe that there should be an investigation in the U.S. Senate, and I will fight to get the truth," Senator Manchin said. "West Virginians and the American people deserve to know exactly what is going on and whether politics is interfering with our college sports."
Sen. Jay Rockefeller released the following statement on West Virginia University's potential move to the Big 12, and the controversy surrounding possible roadblocks to the move:
"The Big 12 picked WVU on the strength of its program -- period. Now the media reports that political games may upend that. That's just flat wrong. I am doing and will do whatever it takes to get us back to the merits."
U.S. Rep. Shelley Moore Capito has also been been following the situation over the past few weeks. She said she'd be willing to offer any help WVU administrators would like to improve their conference situation.I'm a very dedicated WVU fan, both for the athletics and for their academics, and I've been watching the Big East sort of hit rock bottom," Capito said.
"I think it's important that WVU land in a spot that is appropriate to the level of achievement that the university has. It is something that I'm very, very interested in seeing it have a good conclusion."
I do really like the 10 team B12, but really, I feel like if we want to keep WVU, we need to bring Louisville and Cinci. WVU on an island away from the rest of the B12 would jump on an SEC invite without hesitating. If we want to avoid going through this bullshit every year, we need an Eastern 'pod'. At the very least, take Louisville too in order to put some pressure on Notre Dame (our long term pipe dream).
I won't disagree with that.
Notre Dame won't make any changes until it's absolutely forced. The BE has tried to get them to join in all sports for years. They like their (undeserved) cushy football indpendence, and the comfort of playing in the BE for basketball. Screw 'em.
