Great Vid! Looked like you got up to some decent speeds.
What I did today....bolted up trans and dropped engine into bay. Only a few things left to install...billet tcase, front axles, downpipe, hood and front bumper. Everything else is ready to go. Even primed it tonight, but ran out of time to do anything else.
I love that first start up feeling, still to this day.
Butterflies every time. Mostly nervous and anxious but excitement too.
My last update was lacking color so here are some pics.
Crude heatshield I made from a stock 6g74 heatshield for the front turbo. It is mounted with 1-2" clearance between turbo but is almost touching radiator fans.

This bad boy will go on later today....

How it sits today....

Parts list after I toasted the rod on the 6g74 which took out my engine, trans and transfer case....Stock TT bottom end (new rings, bearings and oringed), NA heads/cams from 74 (TT heads are getting thin plus would need a valve job), replacement trans, new tcase, aluminum ds (stock took a hit from rod carnage and ujoints were sticking). About the only things not replaced are fueling and turbo setup; although, downpipe has a nasty dent in it now from tcase smacking it when it broke off at 100mph.
Looks like you can drop the trans by removing nothing but the mount, slave, and bell housing bolts on the top side. Now you just need an engine that out lasts a clutch or some synchros :) good luck!!
Haven't tried dropping just the trans, but yes it should be easy to get to. The pic above is actually with the new (used) trans installed already. Hopefully this engine lasts me a bit and actually lets me enjoy the turbos higher than wastegate boost! Going to keep it below 550awtq to save stock rods, but that allows for plenty of hp depending on where you make that tq;). NA heads and cams aren't ideal for what I am wanting to do, but I'll just limit the boost down low and raise it with rpms. (AEM controlled boost;))
Should be able to start it up tonight, get my first oil change in, some break in miles (of course varying rpm and a little boost) and another oil change. 15w40 Delo for first two oil fill-ups (cheap and has plenty of zinc), then 20w50 VR1 regular/non-synthetic before switching to 20w50 VR1 synthetic. Anybody have advice on how many miles before you can switch to synthetic??
Drove it. Broke it. Towed it. Fixed it. Drove it.
Started it!
edit: drove it. boosted it. parked it to track down an oil leak. Still parked....:D
