Everyone keeps saying timing seems strange, but the allegations were made back in 2012. The report just came into the public eye now.
Does it really matter? If he's found not to be involved, then he wins the Heisman because he's the most well known players on one of the best teams in the country. And if he is found to be involved or guilty in some way, then everyone will talk about how they knew it all along and he was never going to win the Heisman anyways.
Any judicial process involving athletes is a joke, as usually they are either let off the hook with a slap on the wrist, or punished to the maximum extent of the law to make an example of them. Florida State's best move might be to just go ahead and sit him for Idaho.
In this case here the police seem to have wanted to let the whole thing slide. Reports are saying they tried to convince the girl not to pursue the case. They also refused to take DNA evidence from Winston.
Key thing to remember though: We still don't have all the information. This allegations, from both the police and the accuser, but so far doesn't seem to be any audio recordings or otherwise to back one case or another. I have to believe the accuser for now simply because that sounds about right for a college town and the strength that FSU has, however I with hold judgement until all the facts are in.
What's Winston's alibi? Can it be confirmed? How did the accuser ID him (know him prior? from a line up? pictures? description?) What (if any) evidence was gathered at the original outset of the case? Are there any credible witnesses for either side? Any kind of audio or video evidence of the events?
Given the information that we have thus far from the city manager seems to be contradictory to what the accuser claims, not sure which of them (if either) is credible in this situation. I still would have to lean towards the accuser, however the attorney has cited Florida's laws as to being able to block all information of her name and of the case except for what she chooses to release to the media, which could include any and all conversations with the police from their side. Given that they claim to have tried to follow up on the case but couldn't reach her I find that suspicious. Certainly phone logs of kind should be able to verify that they dialed the number provided? Or a physical address for her had to be on file that they could've visited her at. So unless she changed phone numbers and moved, don't put much stock into what the police say in this situation either.
Stuff I'd certainly like to know before making a judgement. That a media inquiry can't reopen a case, but the case was reopened anyway is peculiar since it would mean someone involved in the case either had an attack of conscience or got new information, or that the media attention has prompted people to make false claims or information for 15 minutes of glory.
there are some facts.
They have his dna from the attack.... The police let everyone know he was in trouble for some reason... They gave the case info to the college which god knows why?
then they give it to Winston? So he can get his whole story straight?
She never named him as the attacker up front... a month later she found out. That right there is pretty damning proof.
If she was a angry girlfriend or stalker she wouldn't wait a month...

she identified someone else completely after the alleged attack and now that he's famous it's "oh yeah I mean it was him". from what I've heard on the radio from a very creditable guy someone that covers the program said the police there wouldn't cover shit for FSU and that they'd bust them at any chance they had. whatever. I just think it's mighty fishy that nothing was said about the back up true freshman and now that he's the Heisman front runner for a team with the National Championship in it's sights oh yeah it might have been him. I smell a rat.
I smell the REC.
