Of course Rodgers is going to say something like that, because his team lost. If he were the benefactor he would be tight lipped.

The owners want dedicated refs, who aren't beholden to other professions.
Tactically, however, they're in a box.
A rudimentary breakdown:
1. Money. Duh. Average salary of an NFL ref is $149,000. They were offered a raise, but want more. In other sports, refs are paid as much as 300k-400k. So, they have a bit of a point. Dedicated refs would be good. Get rid of the Ed Hochuli's and Scott Greens of the biz. Who the hell thought it was a good idea to have a lawyer and a D.C. lobbyist as referees? LOL.
2. Pension. The owners want do away with this and move them to a conventional 401k. Obviously, the refs want the cushy pension plan.
3. Owners want performance based assignment. Of course, this goes against common union mentality.
In the end, it's 100% about money. Don't kid yourself and think the owners have the game's best interest at heart. Always follow the money...
Steve Young said it best:
THAT is the truth.Quote:
the NFL is “inelastic for demand.”
“There is nothing they can do to hurt the demand of the game,” Young said. “So the bottom line is they don’t care. Player safety doesn’t matter in this case. Bring Division III officials? Doesn’t matter. Because in the end you’re still going to watch the game.”

That is so awesome.
Tony ROMO!!! I hope dallas sticks with this guy until he's like 40 years old... still pineing away at a super bowl... its hilarious. All these Dallas fans moaning every week is
almost as fun as watching Browns fans bitch and moan.
BTW, was Gruden on the bath salts last night? He was wound, and making next to no sense most of the night.

packers lose to the colts. tebow is playing better than sanchez. houston is on top of the conference? pitt is behind cincy? wtf?
troy does WAY more for that team than rapistburger.
either way, i'm not a cincy fan. i am rooting for the ravens though. isn't it odd that the NFL put the expansion teams in the same division as the teams they replaced? (ravens/browns; titans/texans).
i think it would have been much better to put them in opposite conferences.
I feel bad for Matt.
Fuck Cassel. Lose out Chiefs. Cleveland win some games. I want Geno Smith.
Jeremy
Called that upset last night.
chiefs can't have a winning season. god hates them more than the browns.
The next guy to come back in for the o-line, for the Steelers, was going to be the least hurt guy. I've never seen that many players go down in one game, for one team. Unreal.
I know, Thadd. We just need to make sure our losing season is better than the rest of the losers. :D
Jeremy
Unfortunately every headline I've seen about Suh since he was drafted has made me dissapointed.
why i'm sad this week:
colts lose to the jest
KC loses to TB
why i'm happy this week:
indy previously beat GB, and GB beat houston
steelers lost
patsies lost
falcons won
ravens won
p.s.
afc east is a 4-way tied at 3-3? wtf?
I can't believe Browns over the Bengals. Insanity.
Jeremy
nothing really exciting this week, imho. fuckin stealers managed a win. so did the patsies. hopefully those mistakes will be corrected next week. :)
Packers are back in sync again. GO PACK!
Their D is even more porous now
Charles Woodson of Green Bay Packers has broken collarbone - ESPN
really hated to see the ravens lay down for the texans like a $5 hooker.
