New Mustang v6 (no mods) suffers driveshaft failure, talk about cost cutting!

Not saying I like or dislike the ford mustang, but for the price and what you pay it seems to be a pretty good deal.

I'd still take a Challenger over it and if I was spending that much, I'd spend a little more and buy an SRT8 or the GT. IMO no replacement for the V8 rumble.

Then again, no need for a new challenger when I've got a 1970 Cuda ;)

To me this is a case of the car being fine in stock form, but when you modify it from stock form you need to make the other necessary upgrades to ensure it'll perform to your expectations. This driveshaft deal is aking to someone cranking the boost on a stock 3S without any fuel mods and complaining Mitsu undersized the injectors and set the car up to fail, overhyped it, blah blah . . .

The V6 Stang uses a pretty thin 1-piece aluminum driveshaft I believe (to keep rotational mass down and achieve their coveted 31mpg highway number). The GT uses a two piece for obvious reasons. Solution? If you want to go fast in a V6, upgrade the drive-shaft. Otherwise, keep your 115 limiter in place and enjoy your 31mpg "muscle" car. ;)

What is the big deal here? If you operate your car in conditions outside of its design limitations failure may follow. What is a driveshaft for a mustang anyway? $250?

An ecoboost Mustang would be awesome!

In Australia, Ford offers the Falcon in both turbo-6 or v8. Both made about the same power, both were about the same price, and both were considered the "upgraded engine" over the base I6; the only difference was the character of the car. In fact, when FPV (their SVT) got a chance to make a special version, they made one of each. FPY just recently released an even more powerful version of the car with a s/c V8, but they still offer the n/a V8 (422 bhp / 402 ft-lbs) and turbo I-6 (416 bhp / 417 ft-lbs). It'd be awesome if Ford did the same in the US with the Mustang GT.

Somehow, I doubt that the drive-shaft is the only part on the entire car that they skimped on.

It's also 200+lbs lighter and has better balance, suspension, and basically anything and everything you'd need to have it be a better track car.

Skimped? They put a limiter on the car to prevent you from having exactly this happening. People are acting like these things are blowing up left and right at 60mph. Don't want to be limited to 115mph? Don't buy a smurfing v6 Mustang.
