SOHC motors can and have made impressive power. I don't know of any real SOHC heavy hitters in the 3S world but there are a few in the turbo dodge/turbo mopar world. The most prominent one I know of is Ondonti, He ran 11.50's with a 3.0 SOHC 12v (same motor as in the base 3S) in a duster. He was pushing 500+whp if I remember correctly. Couple of guys have thrown a single turbo on thier SOHC and run the piss out of them. I don't think I'd ever build a SOHC 3S since the TT option is so incredibly easy, but it's really not that far out there to make a lot of power with a SOHC.

Ondonti was a regular poster on 3si, so we know of him.
And you are right, being the TT is such a viable option not many people really push the SOHC in the 3s world. sunmind has a ton of money in his NA SOHC making something like 220whp. I quit buying "power mods" for my SOHC a long time ago. Running mid 15's is respectable considerng the car. With better launches I'd had been limited to a 15.2 or 15.3 simply due to gearing.

Been gone for a while. So just a quick review. I saw a question about the blocks. A SOHC and DOHC are not the same. There are no mounting bosses for the hydraulic tensioner.
If you could get 300 crank, might just feel like this. LOL.
