Wow, awesome job, 50lbs is like a 4 to 6 year old child! Good you getting support, whatever you need to do to make it stick. Nice to hear about success stories. Dramatic bsl change...they probably also mentioned you are borderline type 2 now...? Well, my last a1c was 5.8 (couple of weeks ago), I also am in the 80 to 100 fasting (100 in the am) and thats what my endocrinologist said. Most all of predominant ailments..ie hypertension/diabetes is very much weight related so you are improving your survival statistics :)
I tried cutting down portions, but had difficulties feeling full, and would splurge. Check out information on Adkins/High Protein diets when you can. I am not strictly doing Adkins @ the moment, but am predominantly eating meat with some fruits and veggies, very few carbs. The high protein does make you feel full and digests longer (no bsl spiking), more constant energy levels...the added bonus is lower bsl.
There is a criticism about cholesterol on high protein, I am on a statin already and I am hoping the exercise will help with countering this.
You can check your bpm whenever using index/middle fingers on your wrist or artery near adams apple. They also sell those BP monitors for your wrist that work pretty well and give your bpm. If you really are having high bpm constantly you would notice a weight loss, nervousness/anxiety, be "on edge" and perhaps some skin issues. A constant condition like this is a metabolism problem and its probably thyroid related. Hope you don't have that, but its manageable.
I recommend you get checked out annually...somehow. There may be a "lower tier" coverage @ work. Another option can be those clinics they have for minor issues that you can just walk in. You should get blood work done; its the only way they can tell whats going on. Hypertension (high BP) is know as the "silent killer" as it does not have any obvious symptoms...except for the sudden heart attack and stroke! :eek4:
Just for the sake of keeping the signups somewhat organized, I am going to update the first post of who's in and who is not.
First Post Updated, keep checking in and more updates will follow.
I've done Atkins in the past. I don't recommend it. A healthy diet with lean meats, seafood and lots of veggies is easier to maintain for the rest of your lift. You have to learn what is ok and whats not. Atkins just deprives you of carbs and you don't really learn to eat healthy. If you ever stop Atkins you'll shoot right back to the weight you were at.
I would definitely fail this competition. When i moved to Taiwan I was 6'1'' and 206lbs. Ive dropped to 187lbs and honestly have nothing but muscle left to lose. Good luck to you guys and gals!
