I should also mention that I purchased the VRSF FMIC kit Saturday. Decided to go ahead and jump on that tax return special they were running on them.

List of what has to be done before driving the car:
*rebuild brake calipers
*install brake calipers and pads
*install brake lines and proportioning valve
*bleed brakes
*install rear springs
*find/build/install head
*install Prothane motor mount inserts
*install timing belt and components
*replace driveshaft yoke

I will probably hold off on installing the FMIC, fuel pump, and fuel injectors until I am sure the car runs well in near stock form. That way I can spend my time chasing and fixing leaks and other various issues instead of having to worry about tuning.

I am at home by myself for the next few days and have already begun working on the Talon. I cleaned off the two rear wheels I still need to paint. I have to take a wire cup brush to them to clean the insides before I paint them. They should be done tonight.

VR4Rob is coming to the pull-a-part with me. Hoping I can score a cylinder head at a good price. Maybe we can score a Montero ECU for him, too. :D

Went to the pull-a-part Thursday with VR4Rob. We weren't able to find a 1G turbo but found plenty of non-turbo 1Gs with 4G63s so we pulled a cylinder head from one of those. I'll just have to get a turbo intake cam to replace my worn one.

I also wanted to get a few extra things but we ran out of time. We didn't even have time to pull some things off the head we didn't need, like the intake manifold and throttle body, so I'll go back by there on my own two weeks from now to return those parts and pick up a radiator, a couple of pigtails, and a non-ABS proportioning valve. The car I was working on had a prop valve that looked almost brand new!

One cool thing about ripping the head off with the intake manifold is that we kept a lot of the electronics on it (PTU, ISC, TPS, etc) and were not charged for it. So by the time I return the intake manifold and throttle body I'll have all that stuff and a cylinder head for $75. :) I've already checked the bearing surfaces on the cylinder head and they are clean and smooth. To be honest I could probably get away with simply replacing the VSS on this head and throwing it on the car.

I've set a goal to have the car running by the end of the month. I'll be out of town all of next week too. So basically that's two weeks to get everything done, and I won't be doing work on weekends. :)

Time for another week of trying to get the car back together and running. Just got an email from VSRF and they have mailed my intercooler! Also found a great deal on a BNIB Innovate LC-1 wideband with the DB gauge for $160 shipped so I'm going to send payment for that tonight.

To-do for the week:
1) Prime/paint last two wheels
2) Pull valves, springs, keepers, and retainers from old cylinder head and return head as core.
3) Replace valve stem seals on the good cylinder head.
4) Install Prothane front and rear roll stop mounts.
5) Get intake camshaft, radiator, and non-ABS brake proportioning valve from pick-a-part.
6) Install cylinder head and timing components.

Progress!!!! You've got 16 days and counting :D

For sure. What time are we getting started?

I'm going to LKQ at about 4:30 to pick up a few extra things. Shouldn't take me more than an hour. 6 seems like a good time. It's nice to have an accomplice nearby when I'm under the car in case something catastrophic happens. I hate working under a jacked-up car when I'm at the house alone. :)

We will have plenty to do.

Just ordered a downpipe stud, nut, and FIAV gasket from the local Mitsu dealership. It's nice to have a dealership 3 miles from work. :D

For giggles, I also asked for a quote on a tensioner. $135.00. Ouch! The one I have now is fine (looks new) so I was just asking out of curiosity. I will be replacing the timing belt for sure. I'm ordering a Gates belt from O'Reilly.

Just got out of the garage. Took all the valvetrain out of the trashed head to sell as it's brand new. Replaced all the valve stem seals in the junkyard head I bought. Will reuse the valvetrain in it as everything is in good shape. I've been at it for quite awhile today. I have pictures but I'll post them at a later time as it's 1:36 AM and I need to get to bed.
