I took a couple of days off work to help my wife move around as her c-section has caused her to be in a lot of pain. I'm having to help her get up out of bed and off the couch since using those muscles are so painful for her. I decided to go ahead and paint my intake manifold, valve cover, throttle body, and intake elbow since it was something I could do for 5-10 mins at a time and still be attentive to my wife. Finished the paint yesterday and sanded down the lettering today for an hour while she was asleep. Tell me what you think!

Looks good. How'd you prep them?
After the sandblasting (a few posts back) I cleaned up some spots with a wire cup brush on my drill. There was still a little dirt on the intake manifold so I sprayed it down with carb cleaner and let it dry. Then I applied Duplicolor low gloss black in one light coat, waited 10 mins, applied another light coat, waited 10 mins, then applied a medium coat. Then I let it dry for a day and sanded the letters down.
Adam - Are you running a/c with your FMIC? I'm going back and forth between a bigger SMIC, a FMIC, or a water to air. I'm afraid of overheating issues with a front mount as many 1G DSMs have this issue even with good ducting, and add to that the fact that I only plan on running a TD05 turbo and that I want to keep my a/c, the SMIC seems to make the most sense.
Pros to FMIC:
Cheap
Good air charge cooling
Cons to FMIC:
Blocks air to radiator, a/c condenser
Turbo lag
Relatively high pressure loss
Pros to SMIC:
No effect on radiator or a/c condenser cooling
Shorter piping means less turbo lag
Lower pressure loss than FMIC
Cons:
Less effective at cooling intake charge due to decreased frontal area
Pros to water-air:
Most effective at cooling intake air
Least pressure drop of any other option
Least turbo lag of any other option (shorter intake pipe routing)
Cons to water-air:
Most costly (but not by a significant amount)
Most complex (provisions for water pump, radiator, and reservoir must be taken into account)

There are a lot more out there than you think. A lot of projects go absolutely crazy with wire tucks, fuse box relocations, power steering/air conditioning deletes, vacuum reductions, etc. When done right they look very clean. It'd probably be harder to make it look as clean on a 3S due to the extra piping but I do agree that 3S engine bays tend to have more bling.

I was generally speaking about the ones we get at the shop. They tend to be more interested in more go then show.
I do try to make the most of what they have when putting them back together.
It's been fun learning these cars.
