Wow this truck has had a lot of issues. Have over 1,000 miles on it yet?
Curious, what is the ballpark total investment?
I don't want to tally it all up.
Only a few hundred miles, total since we bought it.
FINALLY out of the garage, and washed... been putting local miles on it today to make sure it's all good. Power steering pump blows asshole, I think it's bad (the new/reman'd one Hans installed), so, he's seeing if he can get a NEW one now. Otherwise, it drives OK.

I refuse to ask how much parts cost now, just how fast they can get here. I definitely do not want to know, because it will make me sick to my stomach. :(
The reman'd power steering pump can't keep up with the demands of the new steering box while the truck is sitting still. While driving... there are no problems. So, I'm looking at a PSC power steering pump. What's another $200 LOL.
I'm pretty sure I've sunk over $15k into this truck over the past year. I started bidding on wrecked ones so I can have a spare V10 to hang onto :)
Here's a quick list I made of what we have replaced so far. No pricing so I can live through the night :).

How did the alignment go?
Still on track for Saturday? What do you guys want for Sunday brunch?
I am on "pins and needles" here, so help me...
Bob.
Alignment went well. We're closing up here to take it on a drive and make sure it's all good. I want to try to slam 100-200 miles on it before I consider going 600 miles each way. That could be a large towing bill if something were to happen LOL.
How far is your trip to NY? Will that meet the break in?
GO TRUCK!!!!
Bob. :)
yea, if we get some miles on it today and tomorrow, friday's trip to NY will complete the break-in miles... of course I'll be towing during those miles, so it kinda defeats the purpose of the break-in... but it would have broken already if it weren't ready. Or so I say :)
Every freakin noise this thing makes has us paranoid... whether it's normal or not LOL. If there is a change in pavement and it causes a weird vibration we start to question it. AHHHHH, I just want a brand new truck now LOL
You should have bought a cummings diesel 2500
P.S. do you happen to have the mesurments or template you used to install the smoked running/clearence lights?
HTC EVO 4G
Our truck had clearance lights to begin with, we just swapped them with smoked ones.
At the time the V10 was super affordable. It comes with all of the same drivetrain items as the Cummins but makes more power and torque. If I got the Cummins, I would have probably been in it double because of the cost of diesel engine parts LOL.
I just ordered up a new PS pump for a Cummins though. Since they are usually running at a lower RPM, this pump is supposed to allow me to turn the wheels while at idle LOL.
94-'02 Dodge Cummins Std.-SP1390 : Pump Systems and Components, Dodge | PSC Motorsports - performance steering components
sadly, the V10 was a cruel joke (even ford tried it for awhile) and while they may have made more out of the box, a simple computer chip evens them right back out, and the diesel wouldnt have needed a rebuild :D
...sounds like a plan right there, since yall have done such a killer job on the resto!
doubt you would be in for more all the parts I've bought have been cheaper than the gas versions also most Cummings engines never give up!! Diesels are very strong and reliable I've never had one quit on me till i didn't need it, they also dont really need the oil changed but every 12k miles depending on its use, i still change about 3-4k.
also would you guys be willing to take measurements or make a template, if you can make a template id be willing to pay a little for it, im getting ready to buy and install some smoke clearance lights but haven't found any templates or places that include templates as well as I cant find an FSM with measurements for it.
PS you should have gone to yard to get a diesel pump, diesel parts are about the only thing i would trust out of a junk yard
You have seen my luck with this truck, right? LOL. I would be in it deeper if it were a diesel :p. The only engine issue I had was most likely my fault because of the torque converter. Everything else that failed is the exact same as the diesel truck.
I'm sticking with new parts when I can. I'd rather not get some worn out used stuff from a junk yard. Too much to lose on a long distance towing trip.
I'll see if I can give you some measurements from end to end to help ya out with the clearance lights. I'm surprised yours doesn't have them. I figured all 2500/3500's had them.
Zap....drop the G, its Cummins!
Everything Hans has had to fix isnt anything he could have avoided with a Diesel truck, except the truck woulod have cost 3x as much to initially buy.
Also, for this trucks intended purpose, i wouldnt run the oil to 10-12k between oil changed, 5k to 7500 tops, 5k if it spent a lot of time idling. All i have owned are diesel trucks, they are much more costly to keep on the road but the extra power is much appreciated and worth the expense for me:) If nothing else, they sound MUCH better:D
Jason
not sure where i put the G?? i know it cummings.
my truck didnt come with clearence lights becuase it was a custom order from the factory when the original owner bought it.
as i said with the oil change it depends on what you use a diesel for, diesels also have a much longer engine life 200k miles is just the begining of it, jaysonY what type of diesel engines have you worked on/ owned
so JasonY you dont own any other vehicle but diesel trucks?
thanks Hans the mesurments would be very helpful.
All 3, and you still added the G again....lol must be replying from a phone?
Jason
or watching pr0n....
lol phone did it and so did computer it auto-corrects for me didn't notice it till now here i fixed it Cummins.
whats all three mean? there are more than 3 types of diesel engines for trucks.
Not in the light duty segment, powerstroke, cummins and dmax.
Jason
LoL...that means nothing more than the difference in price (between a new High Pressure Oil Pump and a used one) is worth it to NOT get that phone call when mrs. Wingnutt is driving thru downtown Oakland, and the truck dies because I wanted to save a few bucks http://emoticoner.com/files/emoticon...gif?1292867702

Yup, that just happened.
nice. now can you put a dodge wheel in a 3/s? :suspect: i'd like a stock look...but a smaller horn/hub. i can always size down the ring....
I had to cut the splined section off of each wheel and weld the stealth wheel with the ram splined portion together. That's how they are from the factory, so it should be just fine. I'm sure it could be done for pretty much any steering wheel.
Reeled in the first catch of the season last night. Many more to come :).

looks like you need a drop down hitch
but it could just be the ground your parked on
Oh, I do need a drop hitch. I loaned it to a buddy of mine and he has yet to return it  But, I probably need a lower drop hitch anyways. My one out on loan is only 3 inches and I probably need a 10 inch
