whats the easiest way to drop the tranny without a picker?

i literally jacked the tranny up about 4 inches, it seperated, then started to lower it and just barely tweaked it and it came right out. Literally took me 5 minutes from lifting it to it hitting the floor.

Transmission jack for sure. Easiest way.

Picker is way faster and easier. It's easier to spot the trans as a pendulum then to wrestle it or toy with a lift, it really is. It's a 5 minute deal to spot it or drop it once everything is out of the way.

Yeah dropping it is easy. Getting it back in is where it can become a nightmare really fast...


To help what I did was found some really long bolts that would thread into the holes that bolt the trans into the block. Think they are 18", and cut the heads off. When you have the trans lifted into place align the bolts through the holes and thread them in. This give you rails to slide the trans back and forth on and makes it easier to get it into place. Also prevents getting the clutch all bent to shit cause you are putting weight on the hub trying to get the rest of it to line up.........

putting it in is super easy if you use a picker and your head. Like was mentioned above I use some 6" bolts with the heads cut off. One on each side makes it easy. Get it halfway lined up and put some slight pressure against it. If it doesn't go in turn the output shaft to turn the input shaft a little bit and it will slide right in. Takes a couple minutes usually.

I have a trans jack and still find it easier to call my friend Ronnie who is a Mitsu tech and give him $50 to muscle the trans back in. Hardly strains my Titanium neck vertebrae at all.

Regarding the bolt idea, would it be useful at all for dropping it as well?

don't know why, the trans basically falls out if you start letting it down.
