people want something they can install in 10 minutes, pay $100 for, have auto tune, and zero driveability problems....not happening.
What I would like to see someone do is build a montero ecu kit that didn't have a huge markup. Hello mail order tunes...
Well, as easy as it is to get to our ECUs... You SHOULD be able to install it in 10 minutes. Price... Oh, to have a fully functioning standalone ECU is worth about $600 to me. And I wouldn't want auto tune. Basic tuning should be done by the user, so long as the internal programming is correct to get you in the ballpark. I mean let's face it, if you are swapping out your ECU, you damn well ought to know how to tune your car a bit!Quote:

I don't know what your background is, but people like megasquirt have more than one person working on it and they've been working for years. It seems ambitious to me to be able to achieve that by yourself in a year, but if you could and it worked I'm sure you could make some sales.Quote:

Im one of those "why make things more complicated than they should be" kind of guys, and Im about to graduate with a computer engineering degree, so thats my background. I think mega squirt is more complicated than needed as it needs to work with any engine setup, where as something I make might have the overall design and concept to work with elsewhere, but the specifics would be catered to these cars.
From a computer and programming standpoint everything is easy...just look at it as input -> do something -> output and youre golden. The electrical end is more difficult, and will probably take the longest. I may be simplifying things a bit, but sometimes I do that to make sure I dont get overwhelmed and actually start working on a project.
If anything the project will only be delayed due to money, as im making next to none and am paying for school. Not being able to afford a vr4 will also set me back, as most of my prototypes will need to be on my NA.
Doing it in a year is ambitious if you have a full-time job. I've made a 'functioning' ECU based on a MPC-5555 in one of my classes a year ago in about 6 weeks with one other member.
if it is the software you want to improve the most why not pickup a basic megasquirt and work from there? I know there would be some initial investment, but their solder your own type of stuff is very reasonable.Quote:

I think something like AEM would be great. Plug and play, alittle easier to tune, without loosing tuneablilty, and costs in the Emanage ultimate range. That would be perfect. Im not sure i would trust the "auto learn" thing though.
