You can't really be a purist with comic book movies, as they are a different universe from the comic books, just as there are multiple different comic book universes. It is how you can have:

Batman
The worlds Greatest Detective
The Brave and the Bold
Legends of the Dark Knight
Superman/Batman

etc. etc. They are completely different stories all based on the same mythos, just like the movies. I too get upset when they change something from the source story when the source story had a better option (there is a semi recent omission from Game of Thrones that still irks me)

Can't argue with you at all on there. I think I have only seen one movie series that beat the book, and one TV series that beat the book.

The Hunger Games, the movies are better than the books, there is more depth in the movies, as Dexter the show "was" better than the books. The first 5-6 seasons of the show was a lot better than the books, the show didn't go all supernatural the way the books did.

Actually, if I'm being honest, I am not a fan of Civil War, I'm excited to see it happen in the movies as I think they have laid some good ground work for it, but in the comics, it just muddied up so much.

I hate that they are bringing Civil War to the movie universe and taking over Cap3 with it. I hope its just a few concepts and not not the mess that the comic series was. It was the start of my loss of interest in Marvel comics.

The movies "based on comics" don't evoke the comics to me as they do for others. :wink:

Ah - it's like this:

A comic-book movie should be to the comic as the new Challenger is to the old - very evocative.

Instead, we have the new Roadrunner, which doesn't evoke anything at all, not with all those doors. :D

I liked the theatrical cut of Batman V Superman. While I liked it, it was not a movie without issues. I saw a lot of plot holes that I mentally filled based on my knowledge of the characters from comics. Thursday I watched the ultimate edition that was released last week and its a significantly better film. Its still not up to the fun level of a Marvel film but it flows much better and most of the issues that I had with it have been resolved. If you liked the theatrical version at all I recommend watching ultimate version.

I didn't see the theatrical cut. Several of my friends mentioned the plot holes in it, so I didn't make time to see it in theaters. The ultimate version was good, still a bit awkward at times, but not bad.

Pretty disappointed with Jesse Eisenberg though. Lex Luther is supposed to be an evil genius, not a lunatic. I thought Kevin Spacey was much better, and of course, Gene Hackman from the originals.

Agreed, Eisenberg's character made me cringe. Poorly cast in my opinion.
I watched the movie again on the plane from MI to WA yesterday and still enjoyed it but nitpicked it further after seeing it the 2nd time.
I'll be getting the Blu ray this weekend to check it out.
