Uh...we do? Never seen any kind of a valve between the core and the engine. I do have a first gen though.

That would be a sensor not a valve. Also known as the AC switch. Not sure why the AC system need to know what the coolant temp is. My assumption is it controls how far to open the damper when the heat is on.
So I looked over the mechanical manual looking for this damn coolant sensor. It is behind the glovebox and I guess connects to the heater core or something:

interesting enough, the mechanical manual shows the different sensors I talked about earlier do in fact share a common 5v

So when I get time and it warms up some, I'll have to test out these connections to ensure they do share the same common power as this will make things much easier to do the swap.
I'm saying I don't think there is anything that changes the flow of coolant from the engine/radiator to the heater core under the dash. Makes sense that something is used to change how much air flows across the core. No sense blowing cold air around the cabin if the core is -10degrees.
Yeah, I thought it was for controlling the fans, but maybe that's on 2g's?
The only thing I could think of is it does something with a blending door, but it still doesn't make sense that I removed sensor and the heat changes with engine RPM. I've gotta do some more wiring, alarm install and stuff so I'll add that sensor back to my car and see what happens.
on topic, this is awesome progress, I'd love to install a newer, simpler more reliable DCC into my cars!
The main thing with this though id that the Diamante unit will not fit into the stock 3S slot as it is completely different. i am going to take Shooter's route and hack up a manual A/C control and mount the Diamante unit in it. that way it will mount like stock and the Manual uits are easy to get and cheap.
For reference, here is how Shooter did his in the pron Panda:
The porn panda gets the first ever 98-99 VR4 auto climate control conversion! - 3000GT/Stealth International Message Center
No much to update on really. i was able to get a manual A/C control unit from the junk yard. I gutted it and cut the face out to mount the Diamante control unit in since that one will not directly mount in the car.

I'll be using plastic glue to weld the 2 pieces together and form the two pieces. This will take some time due to having to wait for the plastic glue to cure fully before I can sand it. I am glad that I bought two units as I broke a couple of the buttons getting them off of the first unit. I was able to salvage them all on the second unit once I knew how it all came apart...:p
Lol yeah those buttons like to break when disassembling them
Wish I had the skills...
