Sorry stock v stock a civic is not a better car. Its an econo box. I'll take a stock 3S over a stock civic any day. Well maintained stock 3S are very reliable. My SL has been great for a 170+k car of its age.

I think it depends on what generation Civic you're referring to. The newer Civics, say from 2002 on? Pure garbage. But the 92-95 (especially with the z6) are beasts that take a beating and just keep on trucking. They're a great platform to mod as well. Not knocking the 3S, just saying that perhaps it didn't have a long enough run in the states to really overcome some of the stereotypes.
