Rex is a very good coach with one of the best defensive minds in the league, and I'd love to see him turn their defense (#32 I think overall, this year?) around and turn them into a strong NFC contender.
He'll have a job as HC in no time. Hopefully with a serviceable GM this time, the Jets GM was _horrible_, to put it mildly.
Not exactly true. The difference is that the contract was restructured so that Brady gets 1 mil more a year, but is only guaranteed if injured. So NE can cut him, and not pay him a dime. The way it was previously set up, NE would've had to put the 24 million in an escrow account a couple days ago. Clearly the NE organization has the money, and Kraft has the money, to pay it. So what it instead frees up is 24 million for signing bonuses (which again, both the organization and the owner could've afforded anyways) and Brady's cap number is even bigger.
Really, this is a genius move on TB's part. He gets slightly more per year, and is still protected if he gets injured, but if NE decided to go a different direction at QB, they can cut Brady without any problem and he can go to a team of his choosing (instead of being sent to a shitty team for high draft picks.) His cap number makes him unattractive (and difficult) to trade, so likely he would get cut instead and be able to choose to go to a playoff contender.
The Redskins fired Jim Haslett. This was long over due, his defenses have been horrible at best and he never could make halftime adjustments if his scheme wasn't working. A chimp with headphones on will do a better job as D-coordinator.
There's some real talent at the LB positions and the line is workable. The secondary needs some upgrades for sure, but they have some young corners who could be good with the right coaching. The safeties are a mess, so that'll take some doing to make better. I wish we could get former Redskins safety Todd Bowles away from the Cardinals as a DC, but that ain't happening.
brady wants to stay with NE. without belicheat's system behind him--he's a middle-of-the-pack QB at best. not that 16th out of 32 in the league is bad...but he'd certainly not have earned the acclaim he currently has--without that system. imho.
Whether or not that's the case, he is highly exalted and thought of.
A deal that's agreeable all around will serve to avoid the embarrassment which attended Manning's exit from Indy.
Everyone is eager to avoid a media circus, moreso now than ever.
i didn't think of peyton's leaving as a media circus. it was a logical decision by the team--and oh looky, the colts are in the playoffs again.
tom brady is the jon gruden of QB.
