Hmm, With the stud in the center acting as the tensioner like the adjuster for a streetbike's shifter? If you want to elaborate maybe I'll try it. I like my setup now but if it will get the job done with less complexity (and weight) I'm down to try it. The only reason I picked this tensioner was for the hooks on the ends giving me something to connect to. I just want to cut down on weight as much as possible so a smaller tensioner would be better.
Cleaned and conditioned my leather interior with Lexol leather care products. Wiped down the vinyl and plastic parts with Lexol vinyl protectant. Looking good!
i love when people talk about saving weight on something that weighs less than a pound. even if you do that on 20 different things, you wont notice a difference in your cars performance. just sayin
i drove the car to school this morning. it was really cold, and when i got on it in second, all 4 broke loose. that was a new experience.
Well, it would come down to how long of a long nut you could find - I could see needing two of them to get the proper length, which would require they be coupled somehow - a short stud between the two would suffice; alternatively, they could be welded together.Quote:

cough cough COUGH! Sorry, the car was dusty. It's been about a year since I touched it! I woke up today and thought....ok, it's time to get it running. First, tires. So I took the 18 inch rims and had some tires thrown on them. Wow....rubber is so expensive anymore. Nothing fancy, sumitomo....actually, the cheapest come to think of it. But there are 4 of them, they are new and they are inflated. After I got home I started knocking the dust off of the VR4. I looked in the boot and found the new rotors that I was going to put on, and the calipers I got off ebay to replace the ones that someone damaged. Good place to start.
Then I looked at the engine still sitting under the hoist, and the flattened oil pan between the engine and the ground where my head had nearly met its end, and a flashback of the moment I rolled out from under it to reach for a cigarette when the Harbor Freight hoist decided it was time to fail.
Well, it took a year to get over being pissed off but I'm back. I admit I tried to sell it. But after 20 offers to part it out and no serious offers to pick it up, well, it still lives here.
The checklist is long. Replace oil pan, mate engine to trans, install engine and trans, install drive shafts and evaluate passengers side rear hub (BENT?), install exhaust, replace brake rotors and calipers, buy new tires......well, at least I got one thing off the list.
I'll throw a pic up tomorrow if I get time to tinker. He's hoping.
Interesting idea with the alternator. I was thinking about getting a membership to this fabrication workshop. Would be cool to make some custom brackets similar to this. Lot of people out there wanting to delete their ac.
Weight saving or loss of comfort isn't for me, but it can add up and pay off if you apply it everywhere possible on the car. I've seen some pretty creative ideas. One guy dissected his harness and removed every wire that wasn't absolutely needed. All for a few lbs. That's the most extreme I've seen so far.
Anyway I love to see new ideas.
I'm working on a sub box and thought I had some good ideas. One of them, using bolts and washers instead of the plastic terminals. I have some plastic terminals (pop-in type) but no hole saw the right size. After thinking about it, those plastic ones would be crap anyway. I'd probably blow them out of the box lol. Anyway, I think the bolts and washers are gonna work out great.

I didn't think about that, I just wanted to get rid of the iron AC and Alternator brackets, I had to keep a small piece of the alternator bracket to use as the upper mount for the alternator but it's small compared to having the entire thing.Quote:
