I want this plenum... anyone know who made it?

I don't have any idea of volume just yet. Even my original design I had to tweak a little. I made the drivers side a little shorter since the TB was so huge. There was no way I would have been able to have a nice 90 degree bend to my IC piping if I didn't. When it's all done I will take some new measurements of each aluminum piece and post them up. I also want to tape off and fill the plenum with water and measure it, then do the same for my stock one.

Here's a better pic of my current problem. The throttle cable bracket sticks out about 3" from the throttle body itself. You can see that if I tried to put the throttle cable bracket back that far it would place it right in the middle of my rear IC pipe. I think I can modify the TB though to simplify it. I found some other posts on the nissan boards. I think I can do what the one guy did, only modify the cable bracket so that it curves in instead of out.

When will you have driveability results? More importantly....will you have some type of before/after data? Any plans to make that tank available for sale? Looking forward for results...

Just a side note...if you do have plans of making the tank/flange available for sale and you need someone who can provide before/after data I would be more than happy to test it out for you. I've got VD and td05 evo III's currently running 17lbs @e85 making ~500whp...plus Ive got no battery and washer tank under the hood so I've got plenty of room..:D

Oh yeah...when its all done would you be able to provide details on how you setup the sensors/wiring on the TB..thanks!!

nice, you should leave the mill markings on it so they know it is custom and not from ebay!

I do use virtual dyno and think I have my last run recorded. It was low 500's. However I've changed a few other things at the same time that would make a difference. I am now running DNP o2 housings. I also increased my timing a little last fall and never got to try it out because it snowed. I don't think I have a copy of the map before the timing increase. It was only going from around 20 to 21 degrees if I recall.

I have no plans of making these but I'll post up my final dimensions when it's done. Anyone could buy a sheet of 3/16" aluminum big enough for about $40. Then assuming they can measure, mark, use a jig saw with some guides, drill/port some holes, and weld they'd be able to make their own. My friend Rodney cut all the pieces for me with a waterjet but I had to adjust some with a cut off wheel. He said he would cut me out a little badge to tack to the top similar to what gctech did. I just need to figure out what it should say.

Hopefully I'll be driving the car by the end of the month. Besides the manifold I'm waiting on coilovers to come in, and airtekk to straighten out my rear bbk issue (stainless lines are too short).

Well based somewhat on the results, worst case scenario I'll just ask if you buddy can make another...when I feel the need...Looking forward to a complete review..:)

A couple questions...

Is the TB height equal to the height of the tank?
Are the ports as low as they will go on the tank?
How much room is left to the hood?

I have thoughts...

Yeah it's just about equal. I can't move it any more forward because of my fpr. I can't flip it on it's side or anything. Plenty of room for the hood to clear. I'm going to end up modifying the TB. I already took some of it apart during my lunch break. This is it now. I just need to get creative.

If a person has the time to do it and the skills to cut, port, and weld, then making a custom plenum is a good option. I don't think the majority of people can do that though and by the time you actually produced these factoring in costs for your time I don't think it would be much of a budget manifold.

I would like to see someone try out this Xcessive Manufacturing intake manifold soon. If nobody does I will probably purchase one myself in the next few months. $485 really isn't that bad of a deal when you consider how much time goes into making a custom intake manifold. If you haven't done hours or days of porting on exhaust and intake components you won't appreciate paying someone to cnc or water jet everything out to the proper dimensions. First, I'm going to try out a 70mm billet throttle body on a stock intake manifold. It'll require some major porting and welding on the manifold neck to give me wall thickness again but it's bugging me not knowing if a bigger throttle body will net any measurable gains.

I think we will probably see a similar gain in power. Stock EVO Throttle Bodies are also 60mm. For those wondering, bone stock evo picked up almost 12whp and 13ft/lbs.

"The 65 mm throttle body, both ours and Works, did gain HP. No peak HP was gained but it smoothed out the dips in the run and in those dips the gains were 3-5 whp.


Next thing we wanted to try was the Extrude Honed intake with the 65 mm throttle body. This is when the testing went down hill and has cost me 5 nights of sleep. The power dropped. The boost dropped. I had the intake off the car 3 times, the throttle body off atleast 8 times. No matter what I did I could NOT maintain more than 16 psi of boost at redline. EVERYTHING was checked or eliminated. The only change was the intake and throttle body. The low end tire spinning monster was gone. The car was lazy to spool and had no boost at redline. Before the intake we were able to hold 19 psi in the 7,000-7500 range. Now max boost in that range was 16 psi. Power was down but I have to attribute this to the dropped boost as I know the Extrude Honed intake will make more power. Ended up no matter what we tried all we could make was 356 whp and 359 ft lbs.

We then decided something was terribly messed up. I bolted on our sheetmetal intake (Magnus builds it for us) with the 3" throttle body. Results were the same. 16 psi of boost at redline and even less power than the extrude hone with the 65mm!

Put the Extrude Honed intake back on and bolted the stock throttle body to it. With the intake hole opened up it made the 65 mm throttle body perform even better. 8-10 whp across the board was lost using the stock throttle body.

We (as a whole at the shop) came to the conclusion that the car was being choked down by the stock turbo assembly at this point. Yes, I know more power than this can be made on the stock turbo."


so they saw a power loss with the upgraded intake and throttle body and attributed it to the lower boost. What's confusing is that boost is just a measurement of backpressure and not indicative of power. I'd rather have a car that makes 350awhp @ 16psi then one that makes 350awhp at 20psi because it's choked up. Now if they had a boost leak I could understand seeing a power loss and lower boost, but a free flowing intake and throttle body that lowered boost should show gains because more air is moving through the engine instead of being backed up in the intake.

Back when we originally tested the intake TB it was on a fairly stock car with the stock turbo.

Since that original testing we have installed I-don't-know-how many ported intakes and throttle bodies. With a Stage 4 car and an EVO green I'd expect to see a solid 15 whp from the car. Probably not 20 whp and probably not 10 whp, they usually come in right at 15 whp. I'd be surprised if dyno sheets can't be found somewhere showing those gains.

Remember, I am running 9.7's at 148 on our ported intake/tb, my brother is running 9.8 at 147, Trent just ran 10.17@142 tonight, tons of other examples of great performance with the parts.

There are some keys to making power with the two. They HAVE to match, if not, gains are low.
That is what I was saying in my post above. You have to match the two parts. Doing just the TB with the stock unported intake shows small gains like my original test showed. It's the typical problem of trying to go from large to small and make it flow, just doesn't work well. They HAVE TO MATCH.

Has anyone determined the rear valve cover to hood clearance yet?
