CF Wrap arrived... Now I get to wrap the cluster...
Well I accomplished a few things, nothing very major, but it's better than nothing. I finished the gauges panel:

Here's the gauges in operation:

Oh and a side note... I started the car for the first time in months, car sounds really bad, injectors are toast, fuel pump is barely pushing fuel and the engine is knocking pretty loudly. Thankfully this second engine is going to be getting a makeover so stay posted. PS: I caught some leaves on fire with the exhaust there were some flames under the car, nothing major.
I have talked around to more engine performance shops locally, it looks like I found a really good place to take this engine to that is local and has a genuine interest in helping my pursue my goals with this car.
Flywheel ordered.
Engine is going to machine shop tonight.
Engine is at machine shop, 1 month and I have a clean engine.
Heads have cracks in them, so on the lookout for SOHC heads...
I may have a set in the basement. I cant remember if i trashed them or not. Let me check tomorrow.
Just checked, must have junked them. Sorry Kev.
My local pull apart has a SOHC 3k (and a Diamante although unsure if those would be useful to you either) that I could snag heads off of for you to see this get built, but unsure of condition obviously. Heads themselves may be okay but I'm willing to wager that the internals are probably trashed.
Yea I am just needing a pair, I am still looking around a bit. I may have to ask GZP or check Ebay and make sure that the heads don't have a crack in between any of the cylinders and valves... I have the full valve train that I am using. I am looking at the engine manual and the diamante heads and 3/S heads for the SOHC are the exact same, so if you do have an opportunity to check the condition of the heads and if they are clean with no cracks I might want them...
I also made an interesting revelation over the last few days... Everyone says that there aren't any aftermarket options for connecting rods for the SOHC. Interestingly enough if you check the 6G72 Engine FSM, you will see that the connecting rod dimensions between the SOHC and the DOHC are the exact same. I was under the impression that these were different and everyone makes these out to be different, but they are the same. The big end journal and the small end journals are the same, wrist pin diameters are the same, length is the same. So I am going to order some forged connecting rods in the very near future so I can be sure that I have enough strength for the new power levels I will be introducing.
I won't be back up to the yard until Monday or Tuesday at the earliest. It's $60 per head, plus whatever it'd be to ship it. I think you're right about contacting Hans, or post in the parts wanted section and see if anyone has a set already laying around that they know are in good shape. These I wouldn't know until I took them off and would have unknown history as far as decking or anything else.
It's 45 per head without cam shafts, plus a 10 core (per head). Unfortunately they don't have an option for just the bare heads.
OK check them and if they check out, I might want them...
Well, made some accomplishment today...
Made the switches panel, haven't put all of the switches in because I need to evaluate the wiring a little more and determine what I want to control by switch. I wrapped it just like the gauges cluster.

Glad to see this build coming along.
There has to be a reason people said the conrods were different. Not that many people have built a SOHC motor with the availability of the DOHC and all.
As always, good luck!
Flywheel is in. Next step is to get the cylinder heads... and proceed onward with the clutch kit, solid motor mounts, and intercooler kit. I might also be able to snag up a single turbo exhaust manifold set someone is selling on the other forums.
Are the exhaust manifold flange patterns the same between SOHC and DOHC?
No I would be cutting the flanges off the already built manifolds and welding on new SOHC flanges. But to answer your question, the bolt patterns are the same.
I'm guessing there will be some modifications needed to make up for the different angles of the exhaust flanges and maybe even the distances between them. I bet the SOHC flanges are closer together than the DOHC. I'm just guessing though.
It should still be easier than starting from scratch lol
Actually the spacing is the same from what I have seen. I will just need to weld very tight and it should be fairly easy.

Project is on hold, buying a house... closing date is December 6th.
Yea got a decent deal on a house here in MN. Not moving that far really, 20 minutes away, but now I own rather than rent. It's a seller's market here in MN, and it's been a very tough 3 months trying to lock in on a house. New place has a 40x30 pole barn and a hot tub building sitting on 1.5 acres, can't go wrong with that!
I gotta tow my car to the new place too. Engine is still sitting with the machinist, in a few weeks I am sure I will be getting a phone call asking for money or parts for the engine block. I still have to drop off the flywheel to the guy for the crankshaft balancing and call Ray Pampena for some connecting rods as well as a new set of heads since mine are cracked, likely going with Hans from GZP as he has a virtually new set of heads for a really good price. Those things I plan on getting after the move and everything settles down...
I did the unthinkable this morning...
Borg Warner s366 turbo ordered...
Everyone cares about pics... Here they are:

Muahahahaha!!!
Sweet! That should be a blast
Sucking in MiniSoda...:)
Where ya puttin the engine?:surprise:
You'll be needing a cow-catcher of some sort on that.
Bahahahahahaha it's the lamp from Christmas vacation!!
Hey no thread derailment! It's all about the build!
Next on the list is connecting rods, exhaust manifold, and intercooler setup.
Going to run with stock manifolds and fabricate the exhaust cross pipe to the turbo. Using the stock manifold because it's very thick...
Connecting rods are on order as well as wastegate and dump tube.

Vanity collector plates? I'm jealous; can't get those here.
Jeremy
Yep, I inquired about it too because some states don't let you get vanity collector's plates. I believe my home state, Michigan, allowed you to get vanity collector's plates.
They were laughing when I told them the plate name. Actually, it was JasonY's plate idea and I liked it, so credit goes to him on the idea.
