I would sum things up this way, from what I have seen and heard:
Apple fans have 'contempt' for those who 'hate' Apple products, while the rest of us really don't care.
Kinda like politics.

That's the one.
You weren't looking up radioactive tsunamis, were you Scotty? :)
No, that's just silly, allthough I could also be faulted as I think all Americans are stubborn and arrogant, when in fact it's just a large majority! (I kid of course)

Apple sauce FTW
apple is full of fail. i could write a thesis on why this is the case--and backed by a litany of documentation from an armada of different, reputable individuals. even if i did though--it wouldn't phase the i-tards one damn iota. so i'll sum it up in laymens terms here:
-apple is a personality cult; quite similar to n.korea. apple stock tanked when jobs had liver problems. seriously.
-steve jobs is the master of BS, spin, and hyperbole (compare apple's stance on intel before and after apple started using their CPU's, among other things.)
-"security through obscurity" is a myth
-apple's market-cap vs. it's command % of the market is highly unbalanced; the stock will eventually tank. it's a "When"...not an "If".
-"it's not a flaw, it's a feature" is even sillier than "640k ought to be enough for anybody".
-foxconn
-"macs can run both OS's" is a load of bunk; apple will send a swat team to your house if you so much as whisper the word "hackintosh". now who is more "open", hmmmmm?
-use of apple devices placed on one's lap for extended periods of time can function as effective birth control. seriously. cooling has always been of tertiary concern to designers. form > function rules all apple products.
-google will data-mine you almost as bad as facebook; microsoft will annoy the shit out of you; linux will not function properly with anything unless you go through extensive tweaking. and yet...i'd still run any of those three over the "if you want to see porn on your phone, get an android" dogmatic apple.
-anything apple can do, someone else can do better. cheaper. with less design flaws, better user interface, greater future-compatibility, and with substantially better reliability.
My God you people are just... I dont have words. :shake:
Michael Jordan quits the NBA - what happened to Nike's stock?

Are you saying Nike is rubbish as well or just not as good as ADDIDAS?
One product will work for one person. It may not for the next as well as another product may.
You all carry on as tho Apple OWES you better, like they hurt you in some way. Get the fuck over it.
Scotty
you're not making the connection here. jordan and woods may represent nike; but jobs IS apple. look back over the history of the company and you'll see it's true. woz was the man who put the solder to circuit board....but jobs was the one who smiled for the cameras. it should be most telling that woz isn't actively involved with the company--and jobs is. translation: there's more sizzle than substance.
looks to me like you started this thread to defend your love of apple. if you love them, great. it's YOUR money. I, on the other hand, remain firmly entrenched in the belief (with factual data to back my position) that anything apple offers can be had cheaper, richer in features, and more reliable--from a competing brand. and even IF it doesn't exist yet--wait a year and watch.
apple doesn't owe ME anything. in truth...it actually owes quite a bit to xerox for inventing the things which it utilized to springboard it to where it is now. it also owes quite a bit to the lawyers who have stiff-armed apple's will over the wills of people who had patents on things apple tried to claim credit for. and to the lawyers who destroyed psystar because apple desired it.
no....you would NEVER see apple get away with the business practices they have if their market share was significantly bigger. it would be called "anti-competitive". steve jobs is also a slave-driver:
DailyTech - Report Gives Inside Peek at Apple and Its "Emperor"
compare that with how google treats its employees. and i'm not even much of a google-fan anymore. google is turning evil. microsoft has been evil, and is currently slightly better off at "bad". apple....words cannot aptly describe how evil apple is.
Like I've said a gazillion times, I dont know computers. I have never said Apple is better than PC. I'm not defending Apple, I'm merely pointing out how you lot carry on when Apple is mentioned. You carry on like you've been burned or they owe you. If they dont matter, you wouldn't care and wouldn't rant on about it.
Scotty
i do care. i shouldn't...because what you decide to utilize for your personal use doesn't effect me. at the same time though, i can't shake the feeling that anyone who does buy into it--could be doing better off with the money spent. and THAT'S what gets me. why, in the face of everything that rationally speaks to the contrary--do people indulge? and it's not isolated to apple...its pretty systemic. still...none of that effects me.
what does effect me...is what these sheeple (in large numbers) are capable of. ....like picking elected officials, for instance. if we can't get the masses to rationally select electronic hardware--what possible hope do we have for the future? and i'm not even really worried about the future. i'm worried about how it effects me. every day that goes by i get the feeling more and more that i'm living inside the movie idiocracy.
not really an "apples" to apple comparison there, genius.
the features i want in a car:
v6
tt
awd
hatchback
coupe
suddenly my "choices" for car are a lot fewer than my choices for a smartphone.
p.s.
"cheaper & faster" is a joke. you can buy a 2g stealth tt in good condition for <$8,000. for less than another $7,000--you can make it faster than a c6 z06. there isn't a new (or pre-owned car within the last 5 years) that will give you that kind of return on investment--regardless of what you intend to sell (or not sell) the vehicle for.
now if, on the other hand, every firebird, camaro, corvette, z, supra, nsx, etc....came AWD from the factory...i might have more options. but that would be as silly as claiming the iphone is the only phone that can function as an mp3 player.
It actually is, genius. Every car has features, so does every phone. You in fact, just listed the features you wanted in a car. I guess you are unable to comprehend that someone might choose a phone based on features THEY want. Who gives a shit what YOU want.
no...it's still not. nearly every smartphone has the same exact features; they're only differentiated (to a small extent) by the processor & the presence of a physical "qwerty" keyboard. besides, if you ask your average iphone user (which, i'm going to assume you either are...or have been) what features made them choose an iphone over anything else, the response is always the same:
"it's an iphone".
that's not a feature. that's a sheeple.
So, by your own admission, nearly all smarphones are exactly the same. Apple devices vs Google devices, etc etc. Glad we could clear that up. ;) That's basically what I've been saying all along about the Mac vs PC debate -- we all use the same components these days.
As far as your "average" iPhone user, I challenge you to go talk to your "average" Android user to ask them why they picked an Android-OS device over an iPhone. If they truly are an 'average' user (ie: not technically inclined like most of us in this thread are), their response will always be the same:
"it's not an iphone"
Back to square one. By fighting "becoming a sheep" for one company, they've become a sheep for another. Funny how that works, isn't it? :)
Of course, that's what the 'etc etc' was about in my post. But I don't see anyone here proclaiming their love for RIM, WM7 or Symbian, do you? Regardless, that's not even close to the point of my response.
Are these not the hardware features you were speaking of?Quote:

I know you and I had our fun in the last thread, but you're making this too easy. As satisfied as I am with my Apple products and as much as you may despise them on a personal level and vow to never own one, this is a debate that can't be won.
of course apple has the lowest failure rates. jobs personally announces to all the i-tards that "it's not a flaw, it's a feature". your iphone was meant to drop calls, have a yellowish screen, etc.
i don't consider hardware to be a feature. features are like:
720p display
hd video recording
4g access
hardware isn't a feature. sure, it's a discriminator--but it's not a feature. soon (if not already) smartphones will all feature hardware which is virtually irrelevant when comparing phones. heck, the pc market is practically there already (it certainly seems like it's been there for a while).
i'm glad you're satisfied with it. you didn't pay for it. if you like it; keep it. i STILL say that dollar for dollar--you can do better. and i know people won't; the 30% failure rate of xbox 360's didn't slow down consumers--there certainly isn't any reason for apple's woes to stop them.
Jesuz H Christ you're an imbocile! Now you're saying iPhones are the only mobile phone to drop out while online or during a phone call? My N8 has frozen, dropped out and atleast once freaked the fuck out for no real reason. I think it's obvious your parents worked for apple and fostered you out at an early age. Sorry to hear about that!
Scotty
Well, there are your poll results to consider...
Not really. Before the poll I knew most Americans (members here and on 3si and BAWC) hated Apple but never really gave any real reasons why. And after this thread, I'm still yet to see why. Honestly, arguments for Apple are miles in front of the againsts. No, let me say that part again. The arguments why Apple suck balls are pretty weak, not so much that Apple aren't a great product. We have one crusader and all the others have stopped posting. lol (possibly away living lifes and all that)
Scotty
You are incorrect. I was a huge fan of my Blackberry phones, and I have never owned an Apple computer, nor wanted to. My company gave me an iphone for business, and I like because it is a better phone than my blackberry's were. The user interface on an iPhone is much better than a BB. They've done a good job in figuring out clever ways to use the phone for a variety of purposes, without having to go through cumbersome menus and what not. I have had absolutely zero problems with mine. My BB's would freeze occasionally, nothing serious, but it's still worse than my iPhone experience.
You seem to think that Apple can do nothing right. Well, you're flat out wrong. There's a reason why the iPhone set the standard for what a smartphone is and should be, and that's why ALL other smartphones tried to emulate it.
and yet, when i use that EXACT SAME argument for why the wii > xbox360--people scream bloody murder.
i'm not going to argue that apple doesn't have positives in favor of it. i'm arguing that for the money you can do better. i'm a huge fan of the droid--if only because of the ability to tether without apple putting you on the naughty list.
p.s.
scooter seems to be looking for people to back up his argument.
I think the confusion your having is that your trying to talk about something that you admittedly know nothing about. It's like listening to a guy that knows nothing about cars ranting to import guys why muscle cars are not that bad.
Imperfect wrote a very complete and accurate post with all the information you wanted to know about why knowledgeable computer people don't like apple and you picked 1 thing off the whole list and bitched about it without addressing the rest of the post.
That's called being a troll. :bigthumb:
Ha! Not at all. The only thing I have found in this thread (and Shaun did warn me on post 3 or 4) is that there is alot of unwarranted hate towards apple. Sure, people prefer other products over apple but the apple suck because it costs more doesn't cut it. And to make it even funnier is that alot of these members haven't even used an apple product let alone owned one.
Seriously, where do you guys come from. Admitting I know nothing about how something works in a conversation that is NOT about how something works tells you more about my honesty than some of the others here. Tell me, find my post that says I think apple are better than pc's and why. Shit, tell me where I say apple is better than any of it's competitors and why. You wont find I say that anywhere. Inp said apple is full of fail. I'm yet to see how he can say that other than they cost more.
Scotty
you're right, scotty. so just for a minute, let's assume that yellowed screens, product design flaws (cooling, antenna shorts, etc) never happened--and apple's products are no better and no worse than any of the competition's offerings--FROM A HARDWARE STANDPOINT.
now then...that means we'd have to evaluate based on price, software, features, etc:
Price: apple's computers are generally recognized to carry a ~$500 premium over any competing products. this premium varies with the device--the most powerful mac's carry a bigger premium; smartphones carry a smaller (yet still substantial) premium.
Software: apple brags up and down that you can run windows-based media on a mac. according to apple, this somehow makes apple better. what they won't say, is that apple does not allow its OS to be installed on any computers which weren't manufactured and built by apple. period. (for the sake of comparison, if you could manage to get windows 7 to run on a pentium 1--microsoft would not only allow it; they'd probably give you a medal). the flipside to this software is the programs available from third parties (or MS/apple directly). succinctly, for a windows-based user, every program that apple has--you can find an viable alternative for windows. unfortunately, the inverse isn't true...and many windows-based 3rd party programs do not support or have not been cloned/emulated for mac. even if they were, there's no telling if jobs would allow it--since he's already demonstrated he likes wielding a heavy hammer on iphone apps.
Features: apple brags about interoperability. again, you're not getting the whole picture. apple is interoperable....if you only have other apple products (and you are fortunate enough never to encounter random, systemic crashes). i like to compare this to a drug-dealer; the first fix is free (well...not so much free, but it's there to get you hooked). of course, once you jump on the apple bandwagon, you'll learn that that interoperability doesn't extend to windows. you like itunes for music? great...but you'll be stuck with ipod/iphone. this is apple's solution; create a proprietary format. once you hook someone on the ease of the service/feature--they can't switch. now itunes may have been the shez-nett back when it debuted...but there are MUCH, MUCH better alternatives available now. in fact, that's pretty much the story about all apple products. they're great for the first year or so...but they're soon surpassed by competing products with better features at a lower price-point.
THAT'S my beef with apple. if you're a nincompoop when it comes to technology--and you have zero desire to improve your savvy or do any research--then apple is a great choice. otherwise, my advice is to stay away and find better alternatives (i.e. droid 1 > iphone 3gs).
Ok. I'm starting to get where you're coming from. You'de like to strangle most of the idiots that use apple as there are better/cheaper alternatives. I get that. But doesn't that go for most things in life? For instance, take our car platform. Shirley there are better/faster/more reliable alternatives? I can't argue about windows capabilities as I just dont get that nor really care as for me, if it works for me, I'm happy. Like I said, in media, if you're video editing, Final Cut is the weapon of choice. When I first used FC, I hated it. I found it was a more complex version of AVID, but after a little time I loved it. It's can't say it's better than AVID or Adobe Premier or some of the other editing platforms, but it's brilliant for what I need. :)
Scotty
Your comparison doesn't make any sense. You're talking about better/cheaper vs better/faster/more reliable.. without taking cost into it. Obviously, if you spend more money on something you would want a better/faster/more reliable product. The point IPD is making is that your not spending more money for a better/faster/more reliable product with Apple. I don't dislike people that use Apple products. I just treat them the same as people who bolt ridiculous wings and put under glows on their Neons. Buying anything because its a fad and you want people to think your cool always gets a :lo5l: out of me.
If you spent the money to buy a TT and found out you got a base model with a new paint job and TT emblem on it what would your sentiments be?
Here is a pretty accurate representation of Apple people.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FL7yD-0pqZg
I dont care, I dont care, I dont care!!! I love that one.
PS - this thread is full of some of the worst analogies I've ever seen. :p Just sayin.
This is where you're struggling. No. Not ALL the time. Sometimes you have to pay more for something just because it's what YOU want or maybe what is better isn't available. YOU may not do that but I would. Again, it's a personal preference, and that is MY point. ;)
And I was hoping someone would post that vid. I love it. :bigthumb:
Scotty
i'd like to take a minute and focus on that statement. i've ran across very, very few apple users who prefer apple some reason other than it being "trendy". the "iphone4" video is apt...but here's another one that i think fits the bill quite nicely:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OM9jhGiIAFM
^ahahhah.
That video was great from Zaroth..
You know those threads where members say all women suck? You're like those guys. You're talking about fanbois you've heard about, known in person etc etc, but you dont know EVERY PERSON who has purchased an apple product. I've already mentioned why I went the apple way.
Final Cut on the iMac is awesome for MY NEEDS
iPod works well + iTunes and we love it
My next phone will more than likely be an iPhone as I'm sick of the mobiles we get which just aren't that great. We dont get the selection you guys have and when you go on a 2 year contract, the choice is even smaller. I dont take into consideration the features of a mobile phone that you would. Again, personal preference. If I go to a shop and the sales person says, "it fucking prints money"! I'll grab that phone stat! lol
Scotty
it's not a generalized statement, scotty. i've ran across all types of apple users. by far, the minority are the people who have been "Grandfathered" into using it for graphic-design work; are limited/hamstrung to utilize anything else because of job limitations; or (amazingly) can somehow cobble-together a fairly reasonable thought on why another alternative would not suit that individual's needs as well.
apple makes its bread & butter off people who want to be trendy and people who are technologically illiterate. of course, there's a lot of overlap between those categories.
I beg to differ, what you were saying is the epitome of a generalized statement. In your earlier post, you mentioned that the "average" Apple user has a hard time coming up with a reason they went with a Mac or an iPhone. This makes sense, because your average computer user isn't you, me, Jeremy or Alan -- but rather someone like our brothers, sisters, friends or half-dozen others that use computers for the most simplistic of reasons: email, web, entertainment, and work (which both platforms can handle just fine).
I have no doubt that there are people that buy into a certain brand to be trendy, but this isn't a purchasing habit that's exclusive to Apple. It takes no stretch of the truth to tell you that for every iPhone user you know that bought an iPhone "because it's an iPhone", I can name off someone I know that bought an Android device because "it's not an iPhone." To them - that's the only argument they need, and... I'm okay with that. I don't blame them - this is how the Android was marketed: the iPhone Killer. This is no criminal act in itself to not be able to come up with a better reason, these people are your *average* users.
So, Thadd - tell me a brand that you support that DOESN'T have a following of die-hard, possibly clueless, average users. Maybe that's where I should have started to begin with: because many of the same things you accuse Apple of, most other companies are just as guilty of. I can go into more detail on this if you want (not that I particularly want to).
Maybe you have a short attention span, so let me go over the one more time for you. You said nobody has given "any real reasons why". We say "Your paying top dollar for an inferior product and a shiney Apple logo". You say "But but but but... it works for me..". It's fine that Apple works for you. Apple works for most people that don't do real computer work and just need to surf the internet. That's not what the conversation is though.
Just one more time.
You ask why people don't like Apple.
It's because you pay an amount that is disgustingly inflated for what you get. People don't realize that and buy them because they are trendy and their primary argument is "but but but... I never get viruses." Without a doubt, every Mac fanboi always pulls that card out. Whoops. There's one.
If your not running anti-virus software.. you could have a virus and not know it. I have 3 computers in my room and none of them have ever had a virus. Hell, at work I administer a network of 20+ computers being used by extraordinarily computer illiterate people surfing the web 80% of their day and I haven't had a virus pop up in years, so I'm not really sure why you hold 3 months above your head like it's some kind of achievement.Quote:
