That reminds me of Winston Churchill,
Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others that have been tried.

Remember the thread about who has gone 200mph? The 4g63 has, in a 1/4 mile.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUZj50z3Gc0
On a 1500lbs frame? What does that car makes? about 1200hp?
By no means do I speak for all DSM owners, but I completely agree with AudibleSilence. I think this was a cool project, but not really pratical for any other purpose then "I did it."
Coming from the 4g63 platform, the thing I saw most attracting about the 3000GT was that it was more of a sports car than the DSM and that it is a twin turbo V6. The 3000GT is amongst the RX-7, 300ZX, Supra, etc. But putting a 4g63 engine into kind of disgusts me.
But I haven’t gone through the hardships that may be present with the V6 engine, maybe in the future I’ll understand why someone would want the 4G63 in their 3000GT.
4g63 is one of the baddest engines out there no question asked, but it's still a 4 cylinder. More cylinder and displacements is always better. The downside of 6g is it cost a lot more than papular engines to make power since it takes two of everything and are expensive expensive since there are little to no competition in the aftermarket products so there are lack of r&d and high price of parts because of them being custom made.
Point is, if the 6g72 is so great, why aren't people swapping it into other chassis, and running 8's?

So many people in here are sooooooooooooo butt hurt.
Why?
Lack of marketing. No shop has ever really made a big fuzz about their accomplishment. A stock internal 6g72 ran 9s on a ~3200lbs car. Imagine that on a 2000lbs car. lol Marketing your product around community where people are limited by their income and interest doesn't make you any famous or successful. You got to put the word out for people to see and draw interest in to the community. Why people ditch their supras and buying GT-Rs now? It's all in marketing and when people are drawn in the platform who want to spend money then the competition start between shops and R&D goes up and parts get cheaper. It's easy concept. lol VR38 needs so much more modification than 3000gt and so do their transmission, but people are just there to have fast cars. 3000gt is a little late in the game though. New cars are out and not many people want a 20 years old car that has not many options available to make it fast.
all the 4g63 are rwd and on lighter chassis. probably why they go faster in drag. not so much the engine itself? Nobody except Nelson is doing anything to compete with the 6g7x
think a 6g7x could go as fast with the same formula? (rwd big slicks and superlight frame)
/internet mech
Good point. Nobody around here does much of anything competitive. The 4g63 has been involved in sanctioned motorsports since the 80's. There are millions in r&d wrapped up in the 4g63 due to its racing involvement.
I'm also seeing lots of woulda, coulda, shoulda, and if's flying around here. Lots of internet experts in here. The op actually did something, instead of bitching about what someone else did.

best gif i could find to describe the standoff in this thread.
also, who likes bowling, but has horrible technique and then hurt for a day or two afterwards? i just can't get that perfect release from the ball and then my wrist hurts the next day, not to mention pulled leg muscles from releasing the balls like an asshole when i'm drunk. when i release correctly, i can't get no spin on the balls.
My back is sore from moving my spare trans over the weekend. I get sore like 3 days after I do something strenuous, then have to think back at what I did.
I have only bowled once, but I was awesome at it. Got 7 strikes in a row.
I hate the Wii. I bought a Wii U for the family, then immediately handed it over to my 7 year old and said "Do what you want with it".
Back to typical 3/S community and their discussion completely unrelated to cars. LOL
This thread was never going to be about cars.....
It is now about testing

lol.....
And then someone will bitch that it's a gutted track car and a disgrace to all other 3S owners that bought their cars as Grand Tourers.
Just don't understand how some guy in his garage messing around with an angle grinder and welder can cause so much grief for others that just happen to own the same car across the country. Bizarre.
I want an easy to wrench on platform that allows easy and cost-effective setup changes to satisfy my need to tinker. I also want to make power from 4-9k without breaking the bank. It needs to be somewhat civil for date nights and weekend trips with wife when we get a kid break. I prefer the timeless, retro-badass looks of a 1g VR4. So I built what I want. For weight, it should end up in the 3300lb range with full interior and AC. Not light, but not what I would consider heavy either.
We are messing around with 20year old cars as a hobby. Nobody flippin cares what engine is in it. Hell, the general public won't even know what brand it is, much less the model and engine it was supposed to have. The only way I will regret the mods I've done over the years is if the cars become collectable, which I highly doubt, and my 135k mi car wouldn't be a great candidate anyway.
For those that are continuing to make insulting remarks directed either at me or the swap I will invite you to do one of two things.....1) come over to my garage, hang out, drink a beer, play with the TIG, talk about cars, come for a ride and enjoy this car hobby. PM me for cell and address. Or 2) Fuck off;) Either way, I'm still going to enjoy my car and hobby.
fwiw A.J Berge did like ~10 years ago before he switched to V8 class and sold all of his 6g stuff to Nelson

Damn MB, that is bad ass.
LOL that's why they need to market their stuff outside of platforms. Some 3/S people are thinking old school or wierd. If I was a shop owner I would build a car that challenge the popular cars in their gatherings. Look at UGR and AMS people in supra gathering. every year they bring more cars.
Either way I'm still waiting to see DSM people's reaction for this swap. lol Have you thought about installing your billet turbos on this engine? are 4g64 internals good for high power or are they N/A? Don't
pffft. lame. it'd have been lighter with a 4g63 in it.
Any ifo on how fast that AJ Berge car went, I tried looking and found almost nothing
I don't have billets anymore. Stock crank is fine. Pistons are fine. Like any other forced induction engine, stock rods are the issue. Im sure they can take some power if you keep tq down, but I'm not going to push it. Broken rods in a 4g tend to put holes in the block and the 2.4 blocks are harder to find than 2.0. I'll build it. Was looking at k1 billet cranks last night. $1600. Love it! Multiple stroke options from what I have at 100mm or destroke for some crazy revs. I'll keep the stock 100mm stroke though. Stock forged or billet TBD.
I don't think it ever ran down the track, Corey.

This whole thread with the complaints is lame. It's like saying why am I putting a built SOHC engine in my car and putting a BW S363 turbo on it? Why mod any car? Because it's challenging and fun.
Weight reduction isn't one big 500lb part you ditch. It's 250 2lb parts.
I've already done most of it. ABS, cruise, AWS, crash bars, misc brackets, washer fluid f/r, rear wiper, gutted hatch (except cargo cover so it doesn't look gutted) all deleted. Lighter wheels, no cat, aluminum single shot, full cloth interior, power antenna swapped for small fixed, 4g64 have all replaced heavier components. Some sound deadening. SRS computer and some wiring.
Already have a carbon hatch and fiberglass hood that I have not yet installed. Will get coilovers instead of springs eventually and delete ecs. Need to do a full wire delete on the components I have removed.
I'm approx 3450 now (weighed what I could on removed components and estimated on others) with at least 100lbs left to do that are relatively cheap and easy.
This list keeps full interior (except hatch), 18/19" wheels, AC, climate control and stereo. Exterior appearance will remain unchanged as I will have the hood/hatch painted to match body color. I will also keep active aero which I think are part of the character of the 1g. (I won't bitch if anyone deletes theirs though.)
Everyone has seen my car and dans car.......we both are about equal in weight. Its heavier than you think. The lightest my car has ever been was 3056 lbs back when I had aluminum suspension and cfds.
I have weighed almost every item removed and added to my car and have logged it in a spreadsheet. I have not weighed the car but am going by the listed curb weight of 3790. Donnie has weighed his 3350 stealth and it was very similar weight reduction mods as my car except I have the addition of an auto but subtraction of a head and turbo. I think my estimation is accurate but will weigh it eventually. Whether curb weight is accurate or not, I have removed over 300 lbs already. Beyond another 100lbs or so is when it gets more expensive.
