I didn't do it for car shows. I just did it coz I'd never seen anyone else do it and HOPED it would look good. I think it did. :)

Lol, I didn't mean to come off as if it didn't look good. I think it looks VERY good, and very unique. It's just a shame to have to cut into the rocker. Perhaps welding in a box would retain the stiffness of them?
Maybe on a car pushin' alot of HP it COULD possibly cause a problem. But, I don't think on a stock SL it will. The hole looks alot bigger in the pic than it does in person. The hole is only about 1 1/4 x 16. If I start noticing my sill plates bowing, I'll definately let you know.
I would venture to say you wont have any structural problems. At least I hope not......
Hmm, I have been working on a similar project (as I also have never seen this done, until now I suppose) but didn't want to cut the body to make it happen. If others are interested, you could look into electroluminescent tape (very thin, not even noticeable). The only problem I'm having with mine prior to finishing it is the purity in the color (looks like I'm going to have get a filter to 'richen' the color a bit); here are some pics I took today of mine during a mock-up:

And, here it is with the EL tape on, I want it it be basically as red as the door light is when you open the door and as you can see it is almost white with a pinkish hue. Perhaps it is wishful thinking with something this thin but I've never used this stuff before so I'm not sure what to think:

Nice work $$$Pit, not trying to thread-jack, I honestly didn't know you had already done it until today when I was searching for something else (I started looking to do this myself back in October); just wanted to offer an alternative to others looking to do the same thing. I know Primus101 kinda already mentioned this method on the first page (I went to a different website though) but I've been working on it for a little while trying to get things right.
