I'm always strategic with my parking as well. Luckily my office is fairly small and I am well known for my cars so everybody is extra careful around whatever I bring to the office that day ;)

I think it would have been closer to 37-39K sitting on a dealer lot, especially with it still being under warranty. I definitely lucked out because there really aren't very many being sold private party that had everything I was looking for. 6spd sedans alone are hard to find, let alone an M Sport with all of these options. There are deals out there, you just have to have cash in hand and be ready to jump on a plane with a quickness to go get the right car.

One other thing I forgot to mention that the car has is a pretty sweet sound system in the trunk. There's a custom fiberglass box, some Rockford Fosgate subs, and a Kicker amp. I know almost nothing about car audio but it sounds great and looks nice. I might take it out for a setup that takes up less space but it's nice to listen to now :)

That deal just keeps getting better and better. Sounding more like you did a really great buy on it. :)

I think I'd pretty much always prefer to buy from an enthusiast than a dealership. We bought my Legacy, the Evo, and now the 335 all from enthusiasts that all loved and the cars and did some light mods that I was already planning to do. I always hoped I didn't use all of my car karma on my once-in-a-lifetime find of my VR-4 all those years ago.

Nice looking car, Rob. As you know, we've had a 2007 335i sedan since 2010 and still love it. Even with it being an automatic it is still a blast to drive. Touching on the brakes topic, I replaced the front pads on our 335i with some Hawk HPS (had them on my old VR-4, made braking a lot better over stock on it). Compared to the stock pads the Hawks do not dust at all, but they also do not stop as well on the BMW. That kind of surprised me. They are not bad, but the stock pads are really good at hauling the car down with the quickness. The only down side to the stockers is they dust like crazy. I want to say I replaced the fronts myself for a little under $100? That sounds right.

I'm about to sell my VR-4. Time to turn the page and step in to something different I think...

Thanks for the post Travis! I freakin love this car... it gets better and better everyday. Thanks for the notes on the brakes. I had Hawk HPS pads on my Legacy and didn't really care for them. They lasted forever but they had pretty bad initial bite and were pretty loud. It seems like there aren't really any pads out there that have decent initial bite that don't dust like crazy. The dust doesn't bother me much though, I wash all of the cars every weekend.

If you haven't gotten a JB4 yet, you should do it ASAP. It's an amazing little thing and the car absolutely hauls ass with it. I've been experimenting with some E85 lately and it's really, really fun just to pour E85 into the tank, press buttons on the steering wheel to change maps, and then enjoy getting sub par gas mileage as you melt the rear tires away :)

Sad to hear you're selling the VR-4. It's understandable though... life moves on. I hope she goes to a good home. What's next? You and Sonya should come visit us in HSV sometime soon.

Tomorrow I'm getting the front bumper repaired from where the previous owner had to drill into it to run a front plate. I am also adding BMW Performance gloss black grills and a new rear diffuser to replace my slightly damaged one.

The Hawk HPS pads have been good for me on both my VR-4 and on the 335i. They haven't been loud at all, and as noted, they stopped the VR-4 better, but not so with the 335i. I just thought it was odd that stock pads could out perform "performance" pads. I'm a little lazy when it comes to washing the cars, so the less dust the better. ;)

I've wanted one since the JB3 was the best thing on the market. Sonya is not too keen on modding the car since it's still under warranty. Too many horror stories of the dealers denying work because the car has mods. I'd love to put a JB4 on there, though. Bang for the buck it really can't be beat on this platform.

I would LOVE to have an electric car right now. Kind of cool being on the brink of technology that will really shape our future. I really, really like the Model S and it's damn fast. If I had $100K to spend on a car, I think that's probably what I would buy. Crazy but true.

Seriously though, we would really like you guys to come for a visit. Paul (TooFast4Radar) was just here this weekend so he can vouch that all guests here have a good time ;) Not to mention all of the other well known 3/S folks that have been here.

I checked into brake pads for the E90 and found that there are pads that are close to stock stopping power with much less dust. The stock stopping power is no joke by the way.

Rob, these should fit your E90 but Travis probably needs a different part number. I plan to get these as soon as I have time to focus on the DD.

I just added the gloss black grills too for only $58 for the set. I tried to upgrade the angel eye bulbs too but the new H8 bulbs drew too much current and kept setting off the warning light so I removed them. It looks like a decent LED kit will run between $100-$250.

Thanks Jim. I've had Akebono ceramic pads on my VR-4 for years and have really liked them. BMW still owes me a free brake service before the warranty is up but I'll keep those in mind farther down the road :)

I dropped the car off at the body shop this morning to get the bumper fixed. Woot!
