In telling me the story, he went on to say that was one of the reasons they(the deputy sheriffs) did not want to go away from carrying a .40 cal to the 9mm, but it was a move that the Sheriff and the county dictated. He said that his .40 cal would have put the dog down with less than half of the shots. His assessment, not mine.Quote:

There are situations that you cant unload a full clip into someone, you cant get time enough to get a few good shots off. What happens when you hit them in the leg and the gut twice because you dont have time enough to aim? Id much rather have a .40 when that happens. I feel like you believe your a perfect shot in any situation, your much more likely to stop someone with a bigger caliber if you dont get a great shot. Better safe than sorry, isnt that the whole point of carrying?Quote:

The caliber wars can go on for years. Another point I've heard was from my teacher who was also a cop and later on a ballistics forensics experts in the lab, was quite different. I own guns in both caliber. I am proficient in my 9mm and I'll take that with me every day and I have no worries. The .40 S&W is an excellent round which is why I own a gun that carries them (HK USP .40). I've just gotten tired of going to the range with some inept shooter with 45 ACP telling me how it's the ultimate take down round yet they struggle hitting center mass shots at 30'.Quote:

And to be fair, that might be the case with any gun in their hand, some people are just not good shots. That and it could be the gun. I got rid of a Ruger P90DC because I just couldn't get it to shoot where it should. As soon as I got my Kimber home, I went outside and shot a few rounds to check the gun out. Shot was where I wanted it every time. I surely didn't get any better or worse from one gun to the other, it was the gun. The same story is repeated between my P85 Ruger (9mm) and my HK P2000 (9mm). The HK is way more accurate in my hands than the Ruger, I pass it off as the difference between a sub $400 gun and one that costs over $700.Quote:

Yeah, that sucks. In Ohio we just had our law get changed in Sept. to be better while driving. You can now drive concealed or on the seat. The bit about having to be locked up in the glove compartment or console is gone also. The other end of the law change also allows us to now carry in liquor establishments as long and the carrier is not drinking alcohol. Small victories over a period of time has the Ohio CCW law getting better than when it was first passed.Quote:
