On the back bumper of a car I'm working on... I thought it was great.
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...psd1c2d5f1.jpg
Yup. With speed they have nothing. The Rover could wreck everyone. Call cops, maintain speed and shoot anyone threatening grievous bodily harm. Hopping into Brooklyn proper on city streets with bikes is a bad idea. Won't speak for myself, but it'd been Nice to see the guy with the helmet go limp into a downfall on his back swing. Thug deserves what he escalates to.
Yes, its my opinion that if as a motorcycle rider you decide to stop in the middle of a freeway and you get hit its your own damn fault.
watch the vid between the 20 and 30 second mark. Watch the bike that passes the SUV in its lane, cuts in front if it and then slows down.
The police apparently see it that way too. From other reports I have read the The Rover driver is not being charged with anything, while many of the bikers are being charged with assault as well as traffic violations.
we talked about it at work today. you wouldn't see hell's angels doing this shit. sure, they may be involved in a whole litany of illicit activities...but thuggery is not one of them. if anything, they try and maintain an amicable presence on the roadways while traveling in packs--they don't want cop attention.
wait....so if I'm sitting in traffic........you can hit me all you want and it's MY fault? The law is actually really clear on this even though the enforcement is up to the officer: The rear vehicle is responsible for avoiding a collision, even if it's unavoidable. Say a truck slams on the brakes in front of you, guess what, it's no different than this scenario. It's a very basic road rage incident that you DON'T see the beginning of. It's not about the car hitting the bike.
Think about it. The biker isn't guilty because he got hit. He's guilty because he retaliated for something that is not on that video. Had the rover guy not have continued to escalate the situation (hitting the dude), none of this would have happened, and had the biker not have been a dickhead, it would have stopped at flicking each other off and been over. What I would have done is very simple: hit the brakes when the biker did. Biker behind me would have been injured and it would have been his own fault (failure to maintain control) and the biker in front would have been responsible for a road rage charge.
FWIW, most cars will stop a lot faster than any sportbike. The bike didn't get hit because the rover couldn't stop fast enough.
Hey guess what.... The jackass biker is the one in trouble, as it should be. I'd normally support bikers, but shit like these "rides" where all they do is dick around gives all of us a bad name. Not to mention impeding the flow of traffic like that isn't even remotely legal...

Bikers terrorize family in high-speed chase | New York Post
Quote:
The attack seemed to come out of nowhere, authorities said. Alexian Lien, 33, of Manhattan, was driving the family’s Range Rover north near West 125th Street in Harlem when the gang, known as Hollywood Stuntz, surrounded the SUV at around 1:30 p.m., according to officials.
A biker pulled in front of the car and slowed down, forcing Lien to stop — at which point, as seen on the gang’s video, the bikers stop and a confrontation ensues. “They take their helmets and they start to dent his car, and apparently his tires are slashed with a knife,” Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said at a press conference Monday.
The panicked dad gunned the engine, striking several bikers — one of whom was seriously injured — as he sped off, with the pack of thugs in hot pursuit, police sources said.

You are the 1st person I've seen defend the biker. Even on the liberal mecca of reddit, no one is taking up for them, not even the bike crowd. Everyone saying just what Kenny said, giving them a bad name. As well as tons of eyewitness accounts of not just this situation, but of these SAME guys doing this kind of stuff all the time. Running the hell out of red lights, swarming on vehicles, and being general jackasses. Not that I'd expect anything less from NYC. They are thugs, plain and simple.
He did not just slow down. He brake checked the Rover, while looking completely backwards over his shoulder. Clear as day in the video. You think a Rover can stop faster than a sportbike? Come on now. Bitches got exactly what they deserved, in fact I'd say they got off easy. No way anyone can say that wasn't a situation where someone would be justifiably scared of bodily harm, ie a life threatening situation.
Jeremy
Except for the fact the biker intentionally got in front of him and slowed the fuck down for no reason... there was no traffic in front of him. And the last I checked... riding right next to a vehicle in the vehicle's lane is not legal
I bet that law about rear ending will eventually be revised... with all the GoPro and cameras that people run while driving.
The laws aren't that ambiguous... While I'm only familiar with Cali and Oregon, most states are similar. You are responsible for traveling at a safe distance and speed to stop in time for any hazard that may happen in the road. If another vehicle invades that safe distance, the violation is on them...
Well, ABM is pretty much on in that statement. You hit someone in the rear quarter, or further back, and it is *almost* always your fault. Very difficult to get out of. Someone popping a squat in front of you like that is dead to rights, especially when it's on video. Insurance companies have started scrutinizing these types of accidents much more due to fraudsters going out and doing it on purpose to collect a quick settlement. There was even an All State commercial about it a few years ago.
Jeremy
why is anyone defending what is obviously thug behavior? brake-checking someone is illegal--plain and simple.
only bikers are defending the thugs.
This gang "Hollywood stuntz" has been caught attacking people before.
Yes he on purpose stopped in front of him to beat him in the first place. I don't know how morons cant see what was going on. It was obvious to the police and anyone with a brain that works.
His mistake was accelerating fast and running over the one guy but they might have pulled guns, if he moves slowly the people can get out of the way. That would be my biggest concern is letting them get close with a gun.
mistake 1. Accelerating fast first time(maybe)
mistake 2. Getting off the highway(although some say they were forcing him off and that looks true).
mistake 3. slowing down in any form(the bikers didn't want to become murderers at least).
I would have never let them swing a helmet at my vehicle without my foot on the accelerator(reverse or forward).
Police are still worthless it seems. 5 minutes and not even a show... tons of cops around btw as they were trying to stop this gang showing up.
Comprehension is a little lacking today it seems...
And yes.....pretty sure a rover can easily out brake a sport bike. BMW's new race bike with abs and slipper clutch brakes from 60-0 in like 140 feet on a good day.......and your average Joe on a lesser bike with lesser tires doesn't do that great. Anyone want to look up the 60-0 on that model rover? Bikes just don't brake as well as you'd think. I almost slid into a stopped car a couple times over the years. Braking is all about how much tire you have on the ground and with a bike 90% of the braking ability is front tire alone. Hense why bikes have tiny brake rotors for their weight.
And where did I defend the dickhead on the bike?
Edit: p.s. April, in most states its completely legal to share a lane with a car on a bike. I never lane split because most car drivers are dicks who don't even know the law exists to allow bikes to bypass traffic and car drivers open doors and throw shit at you.
From what I've read lane splitting is illegal, except in California where is neither legal/illegal.
Motorcycle lane-splitting bill dies in Nevada Senate
The only thing I could find that is "legal" is lane sharing with another motorcycle.Quote:
A proposal to make Nevada the first state in the nation to legalize motorcycle lane splitting has died in the state Senate.
I don't know exactly which Rover that is, but the top of the line (2013+) supercharged ones are in the mid to upper 120's. A GSXR750 (used for example as they are extremely common) will match (and/or beat) that with ease. I assume you're talking about the S1000RR which will do 60-0 in 119-123 feet. In any event, they were nowhere near 60 mph, nor a closed course where you have no distractions, drive straight and just jack the pedal. Apples to bananas comparison.
The guy has assholes swarming him from every side, kicking and punching the vehicle, a screaming daughter and wife...like I said, those punks are lucky as can be they got out of that with their lives.
Jeremy
I had a conversation with someone one time about stopping on a highway. It is ILLEGAL to stop in a lane on a highway unless you are in construction or in a situation where all traffic has to stop. I was told a story about a guy who was driving down the highway, stopped dead for no reason (no other cars around) and was rear ended at 60 mph. The driver who stopped was found at fault.
I would have honestly taken more of them out with the bumper. Once stopped off the freeway, and approached, reverse full throttle munching as I go.
BTW there are many myths out there about lane splitting, including in many of my friends. They still swear it is legal, however it is not, in fact it is not even legal to travel in tandem here.
Umm, if it benefits the biker, then why is it not shown? It is the bikers video right?
Edit: Reread, and unsure what you are saying lol.
I said there is a reason you DON'T see more at the beginning of the video. That reason is likely because they were harassing the SUV driver all along.
That's exactly what I am saying Chris.
