There's a later rule that says cutting a rear hole is ok but only for fuel cells. tube framing is not allowed.
kk thanks guys that awnsers my question i guess i never really looked at the bottom of a 3s and planned to mod it lol.
Haven't updated this in awhile so here we go. I finished pushing the fenders on the passenger side and also wrapped up the tire scatter tunnel.

Here's the drivers side for comparo... what it looked like before

I ended up pushing the rear passenger fender 1 1/4" outboard without compromising fitment of any panel. I'll cut the tail piece back once I fit the rear bumper and cut the rear panel for the splitter.
The black well extension is actually the roof to my rolling chassi. I cut it off the car instead of paying $60 for a clean piece of sheet metal to do it.

Rear diffuser will have a term height 2" above my cove blocking panel. That's how much of the rear I'll be cutting away.

SAs far as metal work goes, I still have the drivers side fenders to finish, 2nd gen buckets to weld on, and one more bar to place and weld in the rear to make an "X".
Chassi is paint ready but I'm still up in the air on color. I'm either going with Caracas Red, or Flat Metallic Orange.

(see the difference in the fenders)
The rear end has been rebuilt, my ACPT CFDS came in, I just finished rebuilding the trans on Friday eve, and the engine is bagged and ready to rock on the stand. Next weekend I'll be taking on the motor while the chassi's off to paint.
Most of The stuff from here on out is going to be hush hush... hope those following understand :p
Do we at least get pretty pictures still?
Where did you get your rear end rebuilt at?
Weren't you going to run the cage to the front struts through the firewall? I'm guessing the clutch booster and master cylinder was on the way?
im curious as to why you want to keep it hush hush? i have never understood that... i am an open book about everything i know (or think i know hahaha) so that others can learn from my experiences and pitfalls
but its your car, and its one awesome build!
Wow! Subscribed, don't know how I overlooked this for 2 months, lol.
First, Congratz on the lil one :)
Some awesome work going on here and faster progress than most people make on much smaller projects.
On another note, I think you're crazy, but you obviously know what you're doing. Too much work for me. I'd have to cheat and find a super light frame and try to make it look like a 3/s lol. Either that or just get a crx and cram a v8 in it. I'll tell you one car that has a lot of room for potential as far as size and weight was the old saturns.
Who knows where to get high heat/strength nut's and bolts? After bouncing the idea around I think I'm going to drill out my flanges and get rid of the studs and go with thru bolts. As they age and get hot as hell, harden, and brittle I don't want to worry about snapping them and dealing with the monkey bizzness involved with removing parts and spending money and time on drilling them out.
