i think that's a bad idea. smic + fmoc or fmic + smoc. i wouldn't mix/match.

Thanks guys. Looked at Oohnoos FMIC but don't want to lose the fog lights so really want to upgrade SMIC. Bob says upgraded SMOC will fit but I think I'll take your advice and get FMOC from GZP. I did find a few metal bits in the bottom of the pan so need to replace the oil cooler. Have to make sure I can find DSM IC to modify first
There's a few in the yards here that were in good shape, so that's always a possibility if you can't find any easily.
Jim, for what it's worth, Hans has been working on some max-type sidemounts; last I asked, they were about an inch away.
BE THAT INCH! :D
I called Hans. He's working toward a SMIC solution that will be like 3.5 inches thick and a little taller. They are planned to mate up to a CX racing hardpipe kit so I think that means 2 inch pipes. He's a few weeks away and probably won't have much time into this for the next week as Em is returning home soon with their new baby.
The price point looks to be something around $1K not including a hard pipe kit. It's a little more than I wanted to go as Oohnoo can do a DSM IC mod for less than $500 shipped or a dual core FMIC for less than $600 shipped. Hans says his SMIC will outflow the DSM though. It may even outperform the FMIC after considering most of the top core is blocked by the crashbar / bumper unless you have a 99 front with a modified crashbar.
Yea that's more than I was wanting to go right now too but I'm still interested. I wonder if it will work with these?

There's a few people on the board that's running these and have had good things to say.
I have a Custom Coach FMIC now, never used. My thoughts have changed since I bought it several years ago and now I'd rather go larger SMICs or at the very least a dual core FMIC.

I still need an intake cam and a rocker to complete the heads. Hopefully I can get a used 2nd gen cam from GZP since new is $250. Pistons and bearings are coming from Pampena at about $850 so a little under $2000 for the motor work. I got the 120K kit (idler pulley, tensioner pulley, water pump, hydraulic tensioner, gates racing belt, and oil pump) for $700. Another $400 for a complete gasket set. I threw in a new oil pressure sending unit and switch to round out the OEM parts list. So about $3K to rebuild and refresh the motor.
I've just started buying the aftermarket stuff. Ordered the DR650 turbos on Thursday which was kind of fun because I called DR and Matt answered and I talked with him for like 20 minutes and learned a few things. I picked up the EVO399 MAF and Chargerx3 made me the adapter harness (Thanks Steve!). I also picked up EVO560 injectors from Evotuners on 3SI (great deal BTW). They come with a flow and latency measurements which you can enter into the 99 flash ECU. Still need the flash ECU and adapter or possibly go with the plug and play. Leaning toward Brett's unit and the adapter kit right now.
I bought the Brownline 1/2 inch drive digital torque wrench for everything from 20-150 ft lbs. I have a craftsman beam torque wrench for under 20 ft lbs. I also picked up Ninja's tensioner tool.
I still plan to go through the transmission and T case, replace seals and reseal the cases at a minimum. Also plan to drop the front subframe, replace the bushings and PC the pieces.
That is seriously a very sensible mod list.
Definately will NOT be stock anymore :)
Looking good Jim!!!!
Bob.
