Meg Myers-esque! I like it
So, on one of the guitar forums I'm on there is a thread about ghost winning best metal performance, and that they aren't really metal. First off, I had no idea who they are. So I watched the video for the song that won. Costumes check, loud guitars check, lyrics about Satan check. It's for sure metal.

Found the cover here to be pretty decent, deff a different way to hear the song. I love the OG version a lot.

I would say metal as the guitar riffs are a Sabbath knock off!!! Hell Ozzy may be writing for them...
It's the lead singers voice. Too pretty, needs to rough it up. I like the song, but I struggle with calling it metal because of the lyrical delivery. I'd classify it more along the lines of rock. Of course, the award dorks also gave Alabama Shakes a grammy for "rock", which was a total joke imo.

Dude's vocals do not match the music, nor his getup that is for sure. Take his voice out, and you have Ozzy/Sabbath!
If you listen to a lot of prog-metal, you'll notice a lot of bands have a clear vocal delivery. Today's kids figure if it isn't some kind of "core" it isn't metal.
I instantly thought of black sabbath when I heard them. I also listened to a few of their other songs and didn't really like them.
They are probably hoping some religious groups speak out against their occult/metal music. That would get them more press than a Grammy. They will probably fade into the background like other gimmick groups like gwar.
I'm fine with clear lyrics. In fact, I want to be able to understand the lyrics plainly rather than growling guttural nonsense. He (vocal delivery) just comes across as a pussy, and it kills the whole vibe for me. Don't really know any other way to say it. He's almost monotone. I need more emotion in my metal.
I hear Sabbath for sure. Love the music, and the words, just not with that singer. :/
