Jk, don't really care as long as there's enough to have an NG16

Just entered 6 votes for Indy
I offset your votes with my votes for Pitt.
I've gotta say.... The voting is going better than I'd originally anticipated. Right now, we have 10 people who have voted. I think most of you are publishing your votes, so I don't see any harm in telling you where we stand. I won't publish it daily, but I will try to publish occasionally if you ask me really, really nice. Wine works if you'd like to bribe me. I need lots of it, though. White, not red (I'm allergic). And sweeter rather than drier. I'm sweet, ya know, so only sweet works.
Ok, onto the important stuff. As of 4pm EDT on 7/7/15:
Indy - 36
Michigan - 5
Pittsburgh - 21
To hold up my end, I'm already working with all three tracks so that we'll have contacts in place and things progressing well to move forward if we should decide to do that. As well as the voting is going, don't forget - it's about the overall number of people who vote as much as it's about which city wins the votes. We need people to actually commit to going in order to make this happen. I'm currently aiming for June 21-26, although that's not guaranteed until we sign contracts. Happy voting!!
P.S. You can thank Manny for this amazing idea. That man put forth some serious effort and enthusiasm, in case you haven't noticed by the bazillions of Facebook shares, etc. Great job, Manny. You may have single-handedly saved the NG.
Good idea Manny, judging by the voting most think it was a good idea.
Thanks Manny! (and everyone else working on this :p)
Hanz, you can start by sharing it on your Facebook.
They poor after they leave here :)
Just a little video for those of you voting for Indy ad MI...

I'm not going to participate in the voting, not because I don't want to help the NG cause, but because I don't think it's right that I have any influence over the NG location when I myself have never been to one. I of course would vote for Pittsburgh, because of closeness, but I wouldn't even be able to guarantee my attendance. (Go figure, right?)
I personally don't care about the road course or anything because I don't think I would want to subject my car to the abuse. I don't even think I could auto x, because I watch videos and have no idea how people have any idea where to go. The cones just all seem to run together for me. If I were able to go (whether in Indy or Pittsburgh) my main reason for going would be for the people.
Even though it looks like I'll never make a NG, I really hope they are able to continue.
Voted :)
+2 for Pitt
You could certainly vote in the hopes of attending. I don't think there's anything unfair about that.
As for the racing, Alan and I had a conversation about this very thing earlier today. I had never been on the track before... And I would NEVER do anything to jeopardize my baby. Admittedly, she's brand new, very stock, and I don't drive her hard... But I never felt like she might be at risk. I do, however, totally understand how you're feeling.
As for the AutoX, this year we were really lucky - the track had a field chalker that we were able to use. It was AMAZING. I've always been worried about getting out there and getting lost. I figured there was no way I could do it because I missed the walk-through and had no clue. And I did DNF on my first run - I missed the last cone of the slolem because I wasn't sure if I needed to go around it. And I might have come into the last turn a little hot and eaten a few cones.... But I did at least finish. Or so I thought... The next two runs were clean, and each time got better. And ya know something? It was a blast. I'd highly recommend it. All I'm saying is please don't rule it out... You'd have so much fun. I never thought I'd enjoy it. But I really did, and I'll probably do it again if I'm afforded the opportunity.
I'm not ruling it out per say. Recently my lack of desire to go had to do with not having the Stealth on the road. Before that was the fact that it was starting to get rough before I parked it and needed lots of love (as evidenced by my revival thread pics.) Money was also an issue for me because I wasn't making much and it was very hard to save.
Last year for Pittsburgh would have been perfect, because PittRace is only about 2 hours from my house, but again the Stealth was still down, and on top of that I had started a new job just months before and already had planned to be off the following week for an NHRA event that is a yearly thing I do with some family and friends. Other guys were already off that week as well. I wanted to try to come up to Pittsburgh Raceway for the drags to hang out, but it wasn't meant to be because I ended up out late on runs for work.
This year Kentucky wouldn't have been that bad of a drive, but again lack of motivation to attend due to no 3s. Then I lost my job, and while I had the time to go without having to take time off two weeks in a row, it wouldn't have been financially responsible to go not having work.
For next year whether Pittsburgh or Indy it's just hard to say yes I'd be able to attend. I'll hopefully be finding work soon and a lot would have to do with my new employers ability to work with me on taking time off two weeks in a row.
Regardless, my #1 goal at this point is to get the Stealth back on the road. I am making my way there slowly, but surely. I of course would love to attend NG, but like I said, that will have to be played by ear.
+2 more in pitt
We go almost every year... and since 2002 I've done the drags 3 times... and that's it. I just go to watch other people break their shit... and now watch drunk people :p
What's so bad about those dates Terry?
School until the end of June?! Holy smokes!! When we originally started doing it around that time, it was because school was out for most, making it easier to attend. The week after would lead us up to the Fourth... Not sure about that plan, but I'm interested in hearing thoughts on it. For me, either is fine. But I know a lot of people have big plans for the Fourth, family reunions, stuff like that.
Yeah, definitely no later than that week for me (and probably many others)
Yeah, I think NY runs later than a lot of places. The last day of school for students next year is the 23rd and typically teachers have to report for at least 1 more day.
And I realize there are no dates to make everyone happy. I might come by myself even if it's just for the road course. There is another event around that time every year (a reason why I missed this years) that I'm not sure when it is yet. I mean I know I'm a pretty big deal but no need to change the dates unless it works better for everyone. I'm sure pushing it near the 4th would cause problems for the majority of attendees.
Voted! Being so close makes Pittsburgh a no brainer for me, although I have only been to 1 other NG (Pittsburgh last year) I really hope to make it next year no matter the location.
Ya, if it goes into July I definitely can't come (except maybe like one day if it's in Pittsburgh). If it's in June there is a better chance.
And Brian, if you have a daily I wouldn't worry about it a bit. Put on decent pads, change the fluid and your good. As long as you don't have overheating troubles I don't see any issues. Your car is probably pretty light so should be easier on it in terms of coolant and brake temp. It really is a blast!
Agree we need to avoid 4th. Holiday traffic sucks with zero tolerance radar, double the volume, and hotel rates go up.
Ok, that's what I was figuring, too. So our preferred week is June 21-26 or July 12-17. June will still be first choice (sorry, Terry - sometimes even being all that doesn't help...).
Done!
Pitts: 1,340 miles
Michigan: less than 1,200 miles to state line
Indy: just over 1,000
So its a 2 day trip regardless.
Update, as of 10pm EDT on 7/9:
Indy - 42
Michigan - 5
Pittsburgh - 30
15 total voters.
+1 for Pittsburgh! more on pay day :)
OOPS! It's been brought to my attention that I may have been unclear about a couple of things...
First, this voting is not only about the number of votes (which will determine the location of NG16, if there is one), but it's also about the number of people that vote (which will determine if there's enough interest to have NG16). So it's REALLY important that people cast their votes.
Second, if your location wins and you cannot attend NG16, you CAN sell registration. There is a small transfer fee, but this way there's no obligation.
Third, if your location does NOT win, you can get a full refund within about a week of the poll closing. It has to be a very brief time because we'll need to get busy FAST on securing tracks, etc., and we'll need to know what type of funds we have to work with, stuff like that. This is going to be one heck of a balancing act...
Hope this helps to clarify. Please promote voting! This is how we're hoping to secure NG16!
6 Votes for the underdog, just because I haven't been to an NG in MI yet. I'll be there no matter where it is so it doesn't matter to me.
