On the GTO's the lack of symmetry is reversed.
And many minds were blown once discovering that.

hence the reason mitsubishi should have put the goddamn things on the door triangle in the first place--since it's already an otherwise useless piece of plastic.
So much Fail... Need to go hunt down a GTO one so I can have matching mirrors! lol
They are that way for a reason. So you can like..see and stuff.
Jason
I'm pretty sure we could still see fine by adjusting them to our liking.
Yeah, things like moving the placement of a mirror on a door is just something done for fun...not because it was put there since thats the best actual place for the thing...
Jason
You ever wonder if 1G DSM mirrors would retro fit to those triangles??? tho it might not flow with the car well since they were pointy and square and meant to flow with the Talon BIG WING
i'm pretty sure brian tried sizing them up once. not even close to the same size, afaik.
Probably didnt need to be...?
Jason
And i just figured it out. By moving the mirror back on the passenger side. You have a symmetrical visual view of the drivers/passenger mirror from the driving position. If you slid the passenger mirror forward the 2" or so the mirror would actually appear to be 2" further forward since the mirror glass would be running into the visual point of the door triangle.
So, my opinion is by having the passenger mirror further back is allowed for a less distracted view of the passenger mirror since it visually is nearly identical to the drivers mirror.

There is a lot of factors to consider in mirror placement and it can vary on budget(platform sharing), seating position, car width, size of the mirror, etc. If they were on the door triangle there would be a decent size blind spot on your drivers front caused by looking into/at the mirror vs looking over/past the mirror currently as it sits.
Jason
I have HUGE blind spots on my Grand Prix. Guess where the mirror is located? That's right, on the triangle.
I have the mirror properly adjusted and between losing cars in the mirror when I know they are beside me, to not seeing cars that are to the left and just in front of me, it gets old, fast.
The Stealth has damn near ZERO blind spots.
700$ for a set of mirrors... jesus...
are they made out of gold? sure carbon fiber.. whatever... as if that small of a part would make a difference between plastic and cf....
00 05 Celica Power Adjust K6 Mirrors w Side Amber LED Built in Arrow Signal | eBay
those look nice. has power mirrors and side markers. and the style you're looking for.
idk. there is no way to figure it out without going out and measuring all the triangles in the world haha. im sure there are some other models that would work well, but i have no idea what they are. now you see why i have gone 5 years with no side mirrors still. idk what will work and what wont.
not much on the roadways that's lower than my viewing angle being blocked by a triangle-mirror in my 3000gt. that should go double if your car is lowered. besides, putting it on a pedestal mounted to the triangle isn't out of the question either.
p.s.
celica mirrors, from what i recall, fit, but the angle is FUBAR. they'll point upwards at about a 45 degree angle, which not only looks retarded, but severely hampers their usefulness. i did try it with my ebay knockoffs. i'll sell them to you if you want.
Well you're right now that I think of it. They would probably block your view. Seats are very low on a 3s which is probably why they didn't place the mirrors in the triangle.
Thread from the Dead...
lol old ass thread. Funny thing is that i just put on said Celica mirrors on my VR4. Doesn't fit that great but I love the look. $30 look alike Ganadors > $800+ Ganador/PRM/Kaze mirrors.
