You can unplug your on star. But honestly why would you have a problem with an in car system if you own a smartphone? They are tracking your every move already.

Smartphone! I have to almost laugh about that one because if I want to know when Mike will be home for dinner I just click the find my iphone app and I can tell where he is, if he is moving and in what direction.

And let's not forget our bank cards. A few years back by looking at my bank statement I realized that you could track almost everything Mike and I did one Saturday just by looking at where and when we used our bank card.

Credit card companys and banks look at what you purchase to determine if your lifestyle reflects a credit risk.

In reality is there anything we do that is not being looked at?

I get coupons from Kroger in the mail and they are for items that I buy. So even my savings card is being monitored and I gave them information to do it.

i have a prepaid nokia c2, and location features turned off. i don't have a facebook account. i never log in to google when i'm doing searches. I will use a VPN service any time I'm concerned about my activities being tracked.

i am NOT going to own a car with any form of wi-fi, cellular or satellite connectivity to its internal functions. if i'm paranoid about my car being stolen, i'll procure some form of localized tracking device that is virtually impossible for anyone but me to use. a "black box" will be one of the first things i rip out if i end up with a late model car. If that means that I cannot buy a car newer than say, 5 years of age (until such fixes are derived and proven) then so be it.

I would also prefer the legislative branch overturn the bill of rights in one fell swoop, rather than gradually trying to ease the american public into it unawares...but that's not going to happen.

On a lot of newer cars, the "black box" is integrated into the ECU, making removable extremely difficult, if not outright impossible or cost prohibitive to do so.

if it's flashable, it's possible to do virtually anything with it--include fooling it into forgetting parts of the car even exist.

I'm not sure how it works.
I can get on the bluelink website and control some functions of the car.
Things like how long the lights stay on when I get out or I can disable the car during certain hours of the day so it can't be started at all.
There are only certain things you can change. It's not like you can tune the car thru it.
I haven't messed with it much. I probably should do that. LOL


I also have an app on my iphone that allowes me to remote start, make the horn and lights go on/off, door locks, locate and do a diagnostic on the car. I haven't tried it yet but I think I can do this from anywhere since it's thru the Bluelink.

So it sounds like the system can issue commands on the chassis/comfort bus - does anyone know more about how this is implemented?
