Congrats on the purchase! Has the turbo been replaced in it?
Out of all diesel truck turbos we rebuild we see more of the Fords then anything. Probably 10 Garrett TP38's for every one holset or S300. Regardless if its been replaced or not I hope your truck provides you with years of dependable service! :)

7.3's normally get 21-22mpg highway, but it does have 250k+ on it. She could be just getting tired.

1. get a custom tuned chip to your ECM code. skip all the generic tuners as all they do is trash transmissions without getting you half the power or mileage.
2. keep the boost under 25 lbs, and don't surge it. turbo will last forever. I'm talking over 500K miles easy. They are cake to rebuild yourself if ever needed since the wheels are individually balanced on the GTP38.
3. if you tow, upgrade the transmission cooler to the factory 6.0 one. Bolts in and is like 4X the size of stock. In fact, just get one anyways.
4. grease your front wheel bearings using the ABS sensor hole like every year or so.....they'll last forever if you do that.
5. Moog has greasable ball joints for pretty cheap, but the upper joint requires stub shaft removal to grease it.....do it anyways.
6. fuel mileage is all about acceleration. there's a LOT of mass there to get moving, so take it easy.
7. if it has a K&N drop in filter, remove it and install a stock one or a better filter. Most turbos I've seen die are a direct result of K&N drop in filters or guys surging the hell out of the turbo.
