Did you ever listen to The Darkness?
i like what i like. there's no rhyme or reason to it. rhythm has a LOT to do with whether or not i like something.
pick a genre & i can share some of my favorites. my tastes are far too ecclectic to "fit" in any one area.

Now there's a good choice, Thadd.
My point would be (now that you've helped me out by using the word "eclectic" to refer to your musical tastes) that no one listens to 'only' Top 40 - that would almost be impossible.
Edit:
Athena (love the song), from the same album as Eminence Front, doesn't make the cut, because it got some big radio play.
even IF a song got some good radio-play back in the day, most of the ones i listen to have fallen off the radar.
examples:
"damn i wish i was your lover" - sophie b hawkins
"never been to spain" - three dog night
"i wanna be rich" - calloway
"high enough" - damn yankees
"are you jimmy ray" - jimmy ray
"amnesia" - chumbawumba
"making love like a man" - def leppard
"godzilla" - BOC
"freedom 90" - george michael
"in the closet" - michael jackson
"life is a highway" - tom cochrane
"hey jealousy" - gin blossoms
"2 princes" - spin doctors
"bicycle race" - queen
"hey pretty" - poe
"c'mon suzie" - indigenous
i mean the list goes on & on. i'll also listen to anything firehouse ever sang. or kylie. or betty blowtorch. or rockapella. or kc& the sunshine band. my music collection is replete with songs you forgot existed; but you'd instantly recognize.
"don't walk away" - jade
i've got a LOT of stuff from "the golden age of rap/hip-hop": 1988-1993
Tell you what...oh, never mind. :D
THAT^ - in a nutshell.
I was tempted to laugh about "Golden Age"...until I realized you were right - there actually was a Golden Age for that stuff.
Probably the last time I was ever on a dance floor was an entire night of DJ/rap, truth.
you know what? i've sometimes described it as the golden age began with paula abdul's "straight up" and ended with billy joel's "river of dreams".
p.s.
yes, i do like much of michael jackson's work. sue me. i could have said "soldier of love" by donny osmond. :suspect:
