Polished my own upper plenum

Yeah...If youve ever polished one of these (so it is smooth and looks like chrome) you'll know how time consuming and hard on your hands it is...I can't believe how cheap they usually are....I don't think I would do it for $200, LOL.

Wow, looks a lot better than stock IMO. How long is not too long and how did you do it?

I may have a little project in the near future...

it probably took me maybe a max of 2 hours. I first used a course wire wheel on my hand drill then changed to a fine wire wheel. Then i polished and re wired it with the fine wire wheel to get the polished looked. if i dont like how it looks when i have my car back together i am going to sand it fully down and make it to a chrome look. it looks better in person then it does in pictures btw

i could possibly do $45 for that. i mainly just want to get rid of the yellow/brown crud and make it look like it's not made out of sand.

i would probably do it cheaper. i like to help out 3s friends =D

wait unil you try to do one to look like chrome , $200 is a steal .. like i said i did one and wont do another, look at powder coating

I did the easy part of mine to look like chrome and painted the rest. I wasnt to interested in doing it all because as said its a lot of work.

You guys all seem to be saying that you want to do, to your plenum, what AirCraft stripper does.
Just buy some of that and brush it over your plenum with a brush you don't care about.
give it 10-15 minutes and then rinse it off..
Then go through and hit the spots you missed.. The plenum will be bare aluminum at this point and ready for a quick sanding..

My son used AirCraft stripper on some of his engine parts and said it worked really well getting the old finish off.
A friend of ours has a business polishing metal and does all of our pieces.
I think he charged us $150 to do ours. He stripped, sanded and polished it to look like chrome.
He has all the equipment to do a professional job and there's no way we could get the same results.

After untold hours trying to do what I didn't know how to do I gave up on and let someone local here in Vegas do the work for me. Bottom line was $400.00. You don't really appreciate the work that goes into a task like this unless you try it yourself first. No cheap, but worth the over all look. Some folks don't like the "bling" factor but it works for me and it will be a whole lot easier to keep clean.
