if you do not want to drop the pan get a steth from autozone and listen to it. its only a couple bucks. if you dont feel its necessary keep driving it and you will find the cause. we had one the previous owner also said it only made a noise once in a while. tore the engine down and bearings were not spun but wore bad enough the crank was bent .030 and a new crank is about $800. hopefully if you have rod knock the bearing is only worn and not yet spun. take time to check it out
So i just got my car back from having the lifters and VSS replaced. The original noise is definitely gone, but its been replaced by a new noise. The noise only happens when it falls under 1k rpms (only while stopping, doesn't do it at idle.) But its like a little metallic drum roll. I was told this will go away once they have had time to adjust. But i just want to make sure this inst something i should worry about, or is out of the ordinary.
New lifters usually don't make any noise after 30 minutes of run time. Even with new lifters, you could still get lifter tick if you have bad oil pressure. I would drain your oil and see if there are any metallic flakes in it. Those videos sounded horrible.
After the lifters where put in, it was drove around for a we bit. The the oil was changed and he said it looked fine. But i dont think i am at 30 minutes of drive time yet. I have a few places to go tonight so i will get the time in and see if it goes away.
Keep us posted.
Well i ran all my errands and i stopped hearing the noise. But tomorrow is another day, so i will post more tomorrow.
Started it this morning, it gave a noise for about 3 seconds (faint) and haven't heard it since. I think i am in the clear. Thanks everyone for your support.
