Poor guy has done more work on his SOHC in one year than I've had to do on mine in 15. I'd estimate that besides routine maintenance it has cost me less than $1000 and almost half of that is replacing O2 sensors. Mine has never been out of commission and unusable do to something breaking.

Agreed, the SOHC is more or less bulletproof. Providing that regular maintenance is performed. I did a single turbo conversion on mine, put 18psi to it time and time again, and it still hasn't blown up.
You just got hosed by some ass clown. Good luck with the rest of the repairs. It will be a great car for you, when you're done.

Hey thanks for everyone's feedback and taking the time to read this. I read everybody's insight showing that the SOHC may last longer. I researched it. It makes sense. I had a guy look at my engine months ago.. he's a pro diesel mechanic. When I told him i had lifters ticking he chuckled and mentioned the injectors. I barely knew him.. so I disregarded what he said (my friend that's been walking me through this rebuild told me to)... My mistake.
@Turbo Beast - I'm in the FT Hood area.
@Stealthee - I've been using a stethoscope (spellcheck fail probly) to track down noises for awhile. And I agree. The injectors rock pretty hard.
@Sketch - I couldn't stop laughing at your "Yep, that's a car" comment hehe
@IPD - I really had no idea what I was getting into. I had wanted one since I was a kid. Always seen one or two running around whatever town I was living in. Looked/sounded so awesome. Some ppl like corvettes/ferraris/lamborghinis... I like GTOs. But now that I've had some experience with mine. I understand and agree that when you buy one of these.. You really gotta dig into it before you waste your money on some idiots ran-to-death-wet-dream on wheels.
I'm going to replace the injectors. I'm keeping this car as stock/reliable as possible. Any recommendations on new Injectors? I found OEM ones at 3sx selling for around 250$ EACH. Holy crap. Are there any good aftermarket ones out there that won't be too much cc for my daily driver? And not completely drain the bank account?
Thanks again guys

Even new injectors tick. I bought cleaned and flow balanced injectors off a guy because they were a great price and they ticked from day 1.
-
thanks, I try to bring the humor wherever I go.
might be more worth it to get your injectors sent out for flow service/cleaning - there are a few reputable places out there to do so. I believe that there is someone in the classifieds on either site who does it if you want to go that route. if you want to buy "new" I'd recommend shopping around before committing.
on the note of the classifieds - keep an eye on them. there's always a part out or two happening and reliable used parts can be purchased to replace your worn down/broken/useless parts that need replacement as long as you're a diligent shopper/buyer.
care to share any photos of your project?

I've never been able to hear injectors over even the quietest engine. maybe my kia. It should be nowhere near as loud as lifters.
-
That has been my previous experience. But when I put a stethoscope up to them, they're pretty damned loud in comparison to the rear valve cover. I really wanna at least try to fix them. When I replaced my rack and pinion.. everyone was like "There's no way that's you problem".. when I turned the wheel the power steering pump would seize and squeel. So everyone that looked under the hood told me it was the pump.. which when torn down looked to be in pretty good shape. So I replaced my rack and pinion saying "well at least after this i'll know for sure" and sure enough.. it was the problem. But I agree any other car I've never much been able to hear the injectors.
It ticks at closer intervals at higher RPMs and also gets a bit louder as well. When I let off the throttle from 3k+ you can REALLY hear it. I believe it 's the lifter/valve lash/adjuster that is in the center and closest to the windshield. Dont know what number you'd call it. Other ppl have told me it's normal for a 3s to have ticking lifters with age. But when these cars were new.. I'm sure they didn't tick. What changed? I did the diesel trick like the manual said. I'm using 10w30. Should I switch to a thinner oil? I don't want to use an additive since that's just a temp fix. The lifters are all new. Maybe 150 miles on them. I'm still breaking in everything.
But back to the injectors..
@Sketch - I'm looking into having them serviced right now. Thanks. I had no idea really. I would post pics.. but I dont have many of the before/after type pics. Mostly after. I wish I would've taken more. When I start on my 95' you can bet I'll have pics tho.

evotuner is the man that you're looking for - Evotuner "Evolution Injector" Injector Cleaning Service - 3000GT/Stealth International Message Center
i'd make sure he knows that you're coming from a SOHC, though i'm not sure if that will matter to him or not. also, that you're coming over from 3SGTO (he has an account here, but it hasn't been logged into since 2011 http://www.3sgto.org/members/evotuner.html )

FYI the SOHC and DOHC NA injectors are the same CC.
