There is no way they couldn't pick this up. It being over Russia and not letting them know could be a different story tho :P

lmao so much win
It could have been much much worse IMO if it wouldn't have exploaded while still in the sky.
The one that is supposed to pass by the earth passed at like 230 ET today and is like 3 or 4 times as big as that one that hit Russia.
It was only 10-15 meters wide, so not big. And meteors and asteroids are constantly hitting the earth and just burn up in the atmosphere. Even had it crash landed, wouldn't have been that big of impact. As you saw on the videos, most of the damage was busted glass from an object going 7+ km/s exploding and sending out a shockwave. Not unlike a jet that hits super sonic being able to break glass.
Depends on where it would've landed. Exploding in the air probably caused more damage vs hitting the ground. If it hits the ground, most of the force is distributed throughout the ground. Exploding in the air means that you have a massive shockwave of air (which obviously is compressable and fairly easy to move) on top of shrapnel damage from small pieces of it spraying about. Unless it would've hit inside of a city or town, odds are it actually caused more damage exploding.

This guy is insinuating the "science guy" knew about the other one. BTW this CNN interview is the one where the anchor asked if global warming had anything to do with the asteroid.

I've been reading up about the one asteroid that was going to miss us but when I heard about the one in Russia I started thinking WTF shit's hitting the fan.
