I disagree... I think they've had their ups and downs, some stuff better than others, but they have a pretty simple formula that hasn't changed all that much over the years... I view them as MTV era survivors, not sell outs. MTV was the worst thing that ever happened to the music industry. Any band that made it through that era profitably, without going down in flames with the hair bands, did something right...Quote:

I have no argument that a well made video is enjoyable to watch.... My issue with MTV and the entire music industry at the time was that it was ALL about the look... Talent had little to no bearing on who got played. It was all about the visuals. For every Michael Jackson there was 27 Culture Club's, Flock of Seagulls, Men Without Hats, and countless hair bands with zero talent, but a record producer supplied image...Quote:

You say I insinuated those great artists had no talent, then YOU lump them in with memorable bands like Autograph, Warrant, Slaughter, Stryper, Ratt, White lion..., need I go on? The list is endless...
I could take it a step further, and make a case that MTV killed the careers of some pretty talented artists, when they got caught in the fall from grace of the hair band....

ZZtop, MTV sell-outs? LMAO, do you even realize how many of their (huge) songs are re-makes? If you wish to label them as such, you need to look back a helluva lot further than MTV.
Like Real McCoy said, I don't view them as sell outs in any fashion. Anyone that can still be doing the same thing for 30+ years, and it still sounds cool, is far from anything resembling a sell out. In fact, that would, by definition, make them the antithesis of a sell-out.
